Dominic Cummings

Gove defending him now.

They are all collectively losing their minds and any sense of what is required politically here including possible successors to Johnson.

At a loss to even begin to explain it?

It is explained by the fact that Cummings is both the creator of the ideology and the day to day person in charge of the running of this government.

They are aware of the huge ideological and practical void it would leave if he moves on.

Leaving the least suitable and equipped (And laziest) PM in history absolutely floundering.

It's quite simple when you consider it in that context.

Cummings is a liar, plain and simple. Taking us all for fools. The jury was out, but I think thats probably me done with this government.

Since you don't even get to be a backbencher without the need to lack honour and certainly integrity it would be a weird system that produced a chief adviser to the PM who had those qualities.

That's nonsense. There's dozens of mps who seek to do the best for society, even if you and I might disagree with them.

If he'd just apologised and showed a bit of contrition they could have probably put this to bed. The sheer arrogance of Cummings, Johnson and the Cabinet is seemingly preventing them from doing that, however. They'd rather just continually lie and show complete contempt for the public.

And unfortunately we know all too well where it leads from here. Emboldened liars are seldom likely to start telling the truth.

The Prime Minister has got to the top of UK politics by lying and lying and lying. In your face, obvious, unrepentant lying.

It has worked for him and furnished him with a huge number of admirers. It's a successful strategy. Why should he stop now?

The bigger issue is why our media, political culture and electorate have accepted such behaviour as some sort of personality quirk, rather than utterly dishonest, untrustworthy and something that shouldn't be within a millions miles of high office.

There are plenty of other idiots out there. And plenty of other valid stories.

That is not what we are discussing here though.

I am asking you a question as to why his circumstances were so different to the other households with the virus and children.

Your answer is "both parents sick".

Well, when the decision and journey were made, he wasn't sick. And in the majority of households where one parent has the virus, the other will have had it too. Or do you think that people don't routinely transmit it to those they live with?

You must be able to come up with a more credible answer than that. You seem desperate to avoid admitting that his circumstance was no different to thousands of other,s o at least put some thought into it.

Don't just try to move on to other discussions
The guidelines were as follows:
You could leave your house for any medical need and or to provide care or help a vulnerable person. Maybe, just maybe, he felt that was what he was doing.
Not sure why you persist in dragging this issue out, he did what he did as he thought he was doing the right thing for his four year old. You disagree that's fine, I don't which is also fine. If you want to brag to your mates that you have won an argument, go ahead.

The weird thing about the Cummings affair is that to defend him the Govt has to retroactively reinterpret their own rules and regulations on lockdown and throw millions of people, ie voters, who didn’t look for lockdown loopholes under the bus.

I’m not even claiming any moral high ground here. I observed, and still observe, lockdown rules for practical/selfish reasons as much as anything else. I have no idea why a Govt thinks upending everything because one unelected advisor did something stupid is a good look or makes any sense.

Ferguson had to go because he broke his own rules and he didn’t even leave his house. This buffoon is doing wacky races around the country and now it’s ’the right and sensible thing to do’?

I get that it’s funny but it makes zero sense.

Making up new covid symptoms and having the PM wave some glasses around in briefing is excellent shithousery In my view. We’re not quite Bolsonaro levels but it’s pretty good entertainment.
