That may all be true but if it quietly leads to a de-escalation of tension over the next few years who cares. (....But .... does it seem more likely that a dictator would really use such an opportunity for peaceful progress or for some under the radar nasty shit?)
If Kim understands recent US foreign policy (and I suspect he does), then he'll know that their M.O is to destabilise a country, effect regime change, flatten it, send in the contractors to rebuild it, and then profit from its natural resources.

I really don't think Kim is going to give up his nuclear weapons any time soon.

That's why it's good to be sceptical. Should we trust a man who had his Uncle and his family executed by flamethrower?
I'm sure I read once that the real power in NK wasn't with the supreme leader but with the army generals. It feels to me that something has changed in the highest levels of authority in that country recently and Kim now has more licence to rule as he sees fit. The turnaround in rhetoric is remarkable.

So in writing in front of the world Kim has agreed to complete denuclearisation, to rebuild new relationships and to leave the past behind.

If it was anyone but Trump on the other side of the table you would all be spinning cartwheels and giving each other reacharounds.

They cant admit he can do anything good. It is hilarious. If it was Corbyn they would be giving him a sainthood.

Since when did disagreeing with Trump automatically label people as lefty Corbyn supporters?

I dislike Trump as a person, because of the opinions I have formed based on what I read and watch on the news (from both sides of the argument). However, none of this goes any way towards forming my opinions of UK politicians, or my political leanings in general.

Trump is shown to be a racist, sexist, unfaithful, lying, corrupt, cheating bully who thinks nothing of flouting the law to serve his own needs. Anything goes for a quick profit, or ego boost.

There would be more trust in the deal if it was anyone else because we would have had more confidence that the groundwork prior to the summit would have been thorough and extensive. Given the haste this was arranged it smacks more of a photo op than anything substantial.

Secondly Trump has shown that he cannot be trusted to keep a deal and no one has any idea if Kim can be trusted or what steps will be implemented to ensure he is keeping his word.

Thirdly Kim’s objective with his ICBM program (irrespective of how real it actually is) and nuclear capability was to a) ensure NK and his safety and b) parlay them into a sit down as equals with the US. This he has now achieved. The likihood that he will totally destroy his main bargaining chips is not in my opinion high.

Fourthly we wouldn’t be having reacharounds if it was a different US President because no other President would have agreed to the sit down without securing concrete concessions from NK first. The sit down was the prize for NK and they got it without too much effort.

Finally I haven’t been disparaging of this summit on the grounds talking is better than not talking and the South Koreans have put a lot of effort into this so props to them. But the fact it is Trump who cannot be trusted to go 5 minutes without lying and the fact that it happened quickly will always raise red flags.

And where did I do that, Chief?
I’m for a world full of peace and prosperity for all, but unless you know the magic formula, I’d say America (at least pre-Trump America) was one of the driving forces behind trying to help create that.

What utter rubbish. A country that killed hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq and Afghanistan at a lower estimate and millions at an upper estimate. Operates torture camps that operate outside of the law. Uses depleted uranium shells, causing large number of birth defects that will affect generations of people. Commits regularly extra-judicial murder by unmanned drone. Committed the only act of nuclear terrorism to date. Attempted countless coups and assassinations. Continues to support a genocide in Yemen. Continues to support Israel and its radical right-wing policies that deny the Palestinians their most basic human rights. Has an intelligence and military service willing to murder its own people in order to create a casus belli. Trump's saving grace is that he is finally causing Europe to see the US for what it is. Driving force behind peace and prosperity my backside.
