He's just ordered the schools to reopen. Schools in Florida have been ordered to go back for the start of the new academic year, which starts in a couple of weeks right in the middle of the pandemic as case numbers are rising daily.

It can only get worse.

Can he do that? Isn't that the Governers prerogative?

Florida is one of the most voter-suppressed states in the country. It's got a history of gerrymandering and also they suffer from a lot of rich conservatives retiring there or voting thanks to their second homes.

They've also got insanely, blatantly partisan and corrupt Republican incumbents. In fact, in 2018 by a margin of 2-to-1, the people voted for ex-felons to get their voting rights back, and 2 year later the Republicans still refuse to give those 1.4m people back their votes (10% of the voting age population).

Desantis won the election in 2018 by 32,000 votes, Trump won Florida in 2016 by about 90,000 votes.

I would say good riddance but WHO needs US money (which Trump has only partially been withholding) and... I will likely be living in the US for awhile longer. :-/

I am not convinced that will occur for a myriad of reasons (even if he “loses” in November), hence my post.

One of the great things about the timing of Mary Trump's book is that he's doing so badly in the polls, he's doing so badly at his job, and he seems so likely to lose in November that it might persuade businesses/ institutions or individuals mentioned like Wharton, to actually decide to jump on the bandwagon and get some separation.

And those self-serving, small or symbolic gestures can snowball quite quickly.
