Donald Trump

BBC just had the Politics Professor of Dublin Uni telling us this was the most consequential US peacetime election since 1865. Chilling words from a native American - "Trump is fascist to the core , he claims Kamala is 'Satan' and he'll use the US military against 'the enemy within' - no doubt the likes of Liz Cheney, Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Scarboro, Anthony Scaramucci, George Conway, Mike Pence et al. The result is by all accounts too close to call, all the polls in the key states are within the margin of error apparently. Worrying times for everybody.

And this is an understatement. Much of the rhetoric in the rally last night—from both Trump and his various surrogates—was taken straight from speeches and writings of various fascist leaders, including Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin. Some of it was verbatim, some of it was close paraphrasing, and almost all of it was intentional. This was one of the loudest dog whistles Americans have heard since the 1960s.

I tend to agree with others that it is likely a sign that their internal polling is showing him to be in a much weaker position than is being portrayed by poll aggregators. And I reckon the fact that Harris’ camp ceased releasing internal polling more than a week ago is a sign they are in a stronger position than the aggregators are indicating (and the campaign definitely does not want to convey that whilst voting is taking place, as they want do not want to do anything to suppress turn out).

Trump unveils the most extreme closing argument in modern presidential history

His rhetoric ranks among the most flagrant demagoguery by a major figure of any Western nation since World War II

Pretty much sums it up. Add the sudden appearance of black and yellow by both Trump and Musk (an obvious Proud Boy dog whistle), and the message is that if we don’t win, we will destroy whatever fabric of the democratic process we can, hurt as many as we can, national consequences be damned.

It’s a very scary time. But I remain convinced we’ll be better prepared, he’s not President so the apparatus of power is not in his hands, the nation is tired of division and sick of him (broadly-speaking) and that a lot fewer will heed his calls for action for fear of losing their freedom.

I am perhaps slightly less optimistic in that regard, but I sincerely hope you are more right than me in this case!

Threatening flyers given to ‘miscreant Harris supporters’ in Texas town, police say

Just over a week before Election Day, some Texas residents showing support for Vice President Kamala Harris are receiving threatening notes, authorities say.

The San Marcos Police Department said Oct. 26 it received two reports of threatening flyers left on political signs. The next day, officers said they recovered more notes that threaten supporters of the Democratic presidential candidate.

“YOU have been identified and are now in our National Database of miscreant Harris supporters, either by social interactions with your neighbors who are on our investigations team, or by yard signs, or vehicle bumper stickers,” the typed note read.

“Rather than the hangman’s nooses of the old days, you are now guaranteed that once the magnificent Donald Trump assumes the Presidency again YOU will be IRS tax audited going all the way back to your very first tax return – and at a minimum – 4 years of painful misery and attorney’s fees.”

The flyers were signed by The Grand Dragon of Trump Klan #124 in San Marcos. The Grand Dragon, according to the Bullock Museum, is the highest-ranking Ku Klux Klan official in Texas.

I’m hoping the bookies have got it wrong. They’ve been wrong before, ie: when Trump got in in 2016 despite Clinton being more of an odds-on favourite as Trump is now.
You can make 160% profit on every pound you put in Harris. She's still drifting while the money still pours in for him.
