Donald Trump

To be fair (and of course we will never know) but with no Covid-19 pandemic, he would probably have won a second term.
He wouldn’t have. However, if he had handled COVID-19 properly and made it his enemy I think he would have had a very good chance. Instead he politicized it which only created deeper and more dangerous and more entrenched divisions. He doesn’t have enough national support or swing state support to win again. The plurality of Democrats are on heightened alert about him.

good point , not only is Trump a sociopath he isn't the sharpest tool on the block.

I cannot see him having another crack myself he is too divisive now we shall see.

Both parties need major reform and a roots and branches overhaul IMO and that excludes Trump of course.

here in oz the left have politicised climate change for example in the last 3 elections and lost everyone of them when they would have won in 2016 for example if they kept well away from an issue and argued on lack of economic growth , productivity and better education and health outcomes with lower taxes and better use of taxpayer funds , climate change that at least domestically is way down on the pecking order of ordinary workers and mums and dads especially now that we have and still are in the middle of a pandemic and all that has resulted as a consequence.

the ruling Liberal government are getting roped into this net zero by 2050 rubbish and if they are on this platform come next May they are far more likely to lose the next election.

Both parties here in oz are once again forgetting about the centre , the farmers , the manufacturing and the underpaid and that means more independent and fringe parties will get votes at the next election and where their preferences swing will determine the outcome but they will have more of a say in determining legislation.

I hope that you are correct.

In reality though - Trump is wildly popular among Republicans - who are willing to overlook anything he does so long as he's for their agenda.

Trump is going to be the next Republican nominee for President and will have an extremely good chance at winning election - barring the outcome of numerous factors - personal health due to age, possible criminal indictment/conviction on numerous charges, possible loss of enough voter support fed up with his behavior...

For me, our next US President is quite likely to be Donald Trump due to the factors above.

From another perspective, here's what bookies think:
It may surprise you but I don't see it. The US were so sick of Trump they elected Biden and all Biden did to be elected was not be Trump.
How many Presidents have served once term lost and them won another?

Its not gonna happen Trump is a one trick pony in terms of what he offers. The republicans love and he has a cult following but that doesn't win elections,
If you watch him during the 2020 it was just 2016 greatest his, and his rallies now are just the same old shit. Nothing has changed peoples minds other than the inssurecton which I am sure will be used against him if he runs again.

Too many Rep's are pandering to Trump's base in order to court the votes they think will get them elected. The Republican party need Trump more than he needs them, but it's a close run thing. Given that the arse has pretty much fallen out of his other businesses Trump's main income stream right now is money from his Stop the Steal fund. He'd be a fool to denounce his claim to the presidency, or the fact that he intends to run in 2024 because all that money will evaporate.

Christ. He even doubled down and tried to defend himself by talking about bathwater decreasing when you get out. Terrifying really, these people potentially have power over others lives...
Well, I'm fascinated - enough to wonder how much sea levels would go down if you took out all 2 billion tons of ships *. But then I once asked Severn Trent if it would help stop flooding in Shrewsbury if everyone in Liverpool turned on their taps (Liverpool gets its water from Lake Vyrnwy and if the lake is full the overflow ends up in the Severn).

* And the answer is: Ships (xkcd.com)
