As for the Presidency, this hinges on a felony criminal conviction against Trump prior to the 2024 election - I think that this will occur.

I don't class myself particularly tribal on any stage of the political spectrum and certainly don't feel aligned to what (I perceive) to be tribal left or right wing politics as I feel like both can get you into a cult like mindset. However, how anybody (never mind half a country) can seemingly vote for this utter lunatic is beyond mental. The man, by every sense of the definition is a narcissistic sociopath who has literally just attempted to overthrow a democratic election. Something people in Ukraine are fighting so desperately for, something our previous generations of the west fought so desperately for, rights to live in democratic societies no matter how imperfect they sometimes are. And half of the electorate in the united states are considering voting for a man with such utter disdain for those rights! It makes you want to give up.

I think its a highly probable outcome. But so many variables. In any normal political cycle you get two parties led by two leaders who put the best proposition forward. This time you have an absolute cult of morons who are aided by a big chunk of the media who will not stand up to the blatant lying and hypocrisy, they go out of their way to promote it. The idiocy of it has been normalised and social media is a wild west of information. Normal campaign rules don't apply as they can say anything and people believe it. It makes it so hard to call and that is even before you factor in the legal drama.

Assuming Biden stays and looks healthy and Trump goes on trial then I think its hard to see anything other than a Biden victory and possibly a big one. They have so much material to campaign on (Abortion, Jan 6th, Democracy....).

But if Trump can dodge a trial and Biden has any kind of health wobble it feels wide open.

IF both candidates were incapacitated by mid October would that mean their VP choices would take over as the candidates?
