I'm not going to start guessing on what actually happened here. We've been criticising MAGA types for years for their 'false flag' nonsense based on zero evidence. Occam's Razor suggests it's most likely somebody in a country with a tonne of weapons decided to take a pot shot at him because he's a divisive figure. Until we have any actual information on what happened, it's all just wild speculation.

But whatever the truth of the matter, this is really terrible news. Either somebody has just ratcheted up the level of violence in a powder keg situation, and in doing so has gifted electoral sympathy to a megalomaniac. Or, we have a Reichstag Fire type situation.
 
Eyewitness on BBC news says he could clearly see the shooter on a roof, and he was eventually taken out by the SS
 
Sounds like Trump got incredibly lucky, as reports of the gun being low calibre dont really stack up if an audience member has been reported killed and another serious. He likely did only get clipped in his ear, millimeters away.

This idiot also likely increased Trumps chance of winning from this, as well as increased the chance of this causing longer term harm to US democracy from a vengeful Trump, no matter the election outcome.
