This kind of puts into perspective just how far their beloved Republic has sunk.

Lol, imagine at this point still pretending any of this had anything to do with evidence, or guilt, or anything like that. Trump could have been caught on camera killing a baby and the Republican senators still wouldn't have found him guilty. They don't care one iota about that, not as long as his base is necessary to keep their seat.Could it be that there was less compelling evidence against trump? Worth bearing in mind that acquittal doesn't necessarily mean the accused hasn't done something, just that the standard of proof hasn't been met. I believe trump is guilty of incitement via five years of deliberately polarising us politics, but he didn't actually say anything that can be legally proven to ammount to instruction to attack the Capitol, even if he inferred or insinuated it. As I think others have said before in this thread, his real day if reckoning is likely to be a Capone style technical financial misdemeanor.
If there was 'less' compelling evidence, why did the Clinton trial take 37 days?Could it be that there was less compelling evidence against trump? I think you know the answer. Making GOP half the jury is like getting the BBC to convict Jimmy Savile. If there was 'less' compelling evidence, why did the Clinton trial take 37 days?
This was a 'slam dunk' in terms of evidence presented, but Republicans were given an easy way out because of McConnell's manoeuvring over the delay of the Senate trial. They could effectively use the excuse that the trial was unconstitutional, even though that premise was put to bed on day one of the trial.
Why are we on our arse? The so called greatest republic in the world is on its arse.
