Dont Marry a Foreigner

I did marry a foreigner and lived abroad. My parents saw their grandson once a year though I moved back (with son but without wife) when he was 7. I do have a question for mooners though. Our son (from my second marriage) is getting married this year to a lass from Windsor. They are both 26 and plan to live in Oxford and to be house hunting in a couple of years. They are hoping to start a family 2 or 3 years after that. We live about an hour away but are hoping to move back north when my wife retires. I like the idea but am loathe to move further away if grandkids are on the horizon. Has anybody else had this conundrum and how did you resolve it?

You move where you will be most happy, the world is a small place now and distance isn't a hurdle.

We've discussed moving away from Manchester, but having a small family and just 1 daughter, were loathe to do so and leave her isolated in the event of something happening. We have stayed put, however see above post, told her if she moves we're following :)

All this and no grand kids yet (or even under consideration)

The fact you posted means you ve had to vent which is a good thing. Even the responses will help the ache. you do have tech for video calls so keep in touch. plan a visit or their visit in the next two years would be my advice, stay strong Blue. Best Wishes!

Cheers, I'm OK now, its just after we say our goodbyes. The only other time I have been this upset is Stoke away when we were relegated !!!! If all goes to plan we will be out in November, December but certainly by next February.

I've lived on the other side of the world from my family for 20 years now.

I do feel a bit of guilt about it, particularly with my mum who isn't in the best of health and would love to see more of me and my family. Covid didn't help much in that regard either.

Much easier to stay close to people nowadays though, and I try and do that as much as possible. Share photos of things that are happening in my life. Regular calls are so much easier than it used to be.

Kids have visited a few times and there's no strangers amongst both sides of the family. We just make the best of the situation.

But I do feel for parents, I would hate it if/when one of my.kids eventually moves away.

My youngest son has moved to Melbourne a year ago. He lives with a Chilean girl. They have bought a place together.
Although he's in Oz it's a 2 hour flight from us near Brisbane or a 17 hour drive. He came up at Christmas but haven't seen him since. Really miss him.
Hope to fuck he never moves to Chile.

No it's not a Farage rant.. if you do marry a foreigner, live in this country, if you live elsewhere - don't have children. Please don't have children.
One of my sons travelled the world, not a problem. He met and fell in love with an aussie, again not a problem. Not even when he settled there.....
I have just had a video call with my 2 year old grandson and I am so fed up ? Upset ? Heartbroken.. yes. He is so gorgeous and growing up so fast and I'm not there. How Mrs Mist copes I don't know. I know they are brilliant parents so I shouldn't moan but I miss him so much.

I don't show my feelings normally to anyone so I've posted on here.
Move to Oz Misty.
