'Don't Wait For Me' - Joe Hart

I've thought for a long time that 'keepers would be better off not commiting until after the ball has been kicked on penalties, since so many try to be clever, banging it down the middle , knowing the 'keeper is going one way or the other. Although I suppose if they all started doing that, they would go back to tapping them in the corner.
I totally agree. I know Shilton tried this in 1990 and it failed but then most pens aren't hammered right into the corners like those German pens were. And if pens are that perfect then they don't tend to get saved no matter how early the keeper guesses and dives anyway.

looked to me like he was saying 'you won't beat me'

on inside city viera was telling noel gallagher that balotelli told hart he'd take 10 pens at him and send him the wrong way every time... which he did scoring all 10

Yeah, if a player puts it right in the corner with enough power no goalie on earth will stop it. I remember Bobby Johnstone always used to score penalties off the inside of a post. Impossible to save and it took some skill to do it time after time. He used to change which post it went in off as well, so goalies had absolutely no chance.

Mark Ward used to do the same didn't he. I was never totally convinced Ward meant it though.
Edit: Apologies for comparing Ward to Johnstone!

Whatever he said ,according to some press/media/pundits he is lucky to have escaped a 3 match ban or maybe even a lifetime ban for unsportsmanlike behaviour. How dare you Joe?

He should have let it in then we'd have made more effort sooner. Anyway, thanks to the publicity all future penalty takers against Joe will know, even if he doesn't say anything, that he's thinking "Don't wait for me"!

The first edition of the new City newsletter was about Mario vs Joe at penalties, Lescott was quoted as saying Hart finally saved one in training and ran around, jumping up and down, screaming like he'd won the world cup.

Brilliant from Joe Hart. Whatever he was saying, it clearly put doubt in the taker's mind and gave himself a big psychological boost.
