Looked like 'your not getting past me, I'm number 1'

Was holding a finger up as he said the one.

This is what he said. he also tells players he knows where there going to put it like he did to Lampard at the bridge

Sinclair always waits for the goalkeeper to make the first move, then he puts the ball in the opposite direction.

Peter Beagrie said Hart has been studied all the penalty-takers in the PL.

Don`t wait for me!

Mario take note!

Would be piss funny if Mario had a pen to take against Joe! (Euros maybe?)

First one to commit loses!

He does it in training, 9 times out of 10 he'll send the keeper the wrong way.

He didn't, he said "Don't wait for me", meaning "don't wait to see which way I go.

he's been trying to psyche out every pen taker we';ve faced, you're right about that.

I totally agree. I know Shilton tried this in 1990 and it failed but then most pens aren't hammered right into the corners like those German pens were. And if pens are that perfect then they don't tend to get saved no matter how early the keeper guesses and dives anyway.

Yeah, if a player puts it right in the corner with enough power no goalie on earth will stop it. I remember Bobby Johnstone always used to score penalties off the inside of a post. Impossible to save and it took some skill to do it time after time. He used to change which post it went in off as well, so goalies had absolutely no chance.

Mark Ward used to do the same didn't he. I was never totally convinced Ward meant it though.
Edit: Apologies for comparing Ward to Johnstone!

Yes indeed. I think Wee Bobby might be turning in his grave !

The other thing was that Bobby used to do this trick with the old heavy ball. Just think what players like him could do with today's lightweight ball.

ill still dont understand why a pen is ever missed, just go high up, last season i took 11 pens scored 11 all side footed in to the top right corner, no keeper ever dives to the top corner and on 100k per week u should be able to side foot a ball 12 yards into the top corner.

I've thought for a long time that 'keepers would be better off not commiting until after the ball has been kicked on penalties, since so many try to be clever, banging it down the middle , knowing the 'keeper is going one way or the other. Although I suppose if they all started doing that, they would go back to tapping them in the corner.

I once read a report that said if the ball is kicked with pace mid height into the last third of the goal (towards one of the goal posts) the goalkeeper can't get across quick enough to save it, no matter what.

Personally I think the penalty taker should be able to do whatever he or she wants in their run-up to the ball, and the goalie can move along the line (before the ball's kicked) however he or she wants too.. all these stupid rules make things confusing for the referees, and it's a contest for FFS.
