Many years ago I was innocently stood in 5th avenue (the club) when it all kicked off in another area of the club. I Wasnt even drinking I was on lemonade and had my car parked outside - I think I was working the next day. Anyway when it all calms down 2 bouncers walked up to me and my mate who were simply having a chat and says "they were involved". The next minute I am carried up some stairs by my neck with my feet not touching the floor. As I got to the top of the stairs they twitted my head against he door and gave me a good kicking. Like a dickhead I then phoned the police in front of them and they smashed my phone to bits and twitted me about even more. Scum if the earth most of them.

some really sweeping statements on this thread, the keyboard warriors are out in force having a go at bouncers from the safety of their computers lol, the one that made me laugh the most says he doesn't go near them and then proceeds to tell us all how they are, scum, bullies etc.

Bouncers have to put up with some proper idiots, men and Women who have had two sniffs of a bar maids apron and think they can fight the world, the guys and girls on the doors are human too, how many of you can truly say that you wouldn't get to the point of smashing someone's face in if a, you were capable , b, they kept coming back for more no matter how many times you warned them. ??

I trained with many Doormen and encountering them outside of their work environment their true self was more visible.

Never had any problems with them and from remembrance most (if not all) were normal, general lads with one exception:
Some were on the Gear and most had done a bit of training to learn how to handle themselves.

At work its totally different. This goes for someone serving you a burger at McDonald's to a Doorman.
Regularly being around people who are completely wasted on drink and drugs, you will develop some negative perception of Joe public and you come along happy as Larry, sober and being pleasant straight after the Doorman has just had to eject some scrote for being drunk.
His perception of you and the situation will be tested no matter how nice you are.

Many clubs have shyed away from the big guys, tending to employ more intelligent smaller guys (not 6'5) with people skills who can also handle themselves as a last resort.

Like everything though, there is good and bad.

The worst thing anyone can do with Doormen is be confrontational themselves (no matter how much you think you can handle yourself) as this just reminds them of their last resort.

In the video the guy is looking for a fight and could of attempted to walk away.

I've never had any problems with any Doormen whilst out on a night out. Why? Because I keep my mouth shut and walk away.

I accept that the lad was being a lairy gobshite, but then that's what some folk are like on the pop or Charlie, so bouncers should be used to 'em.
They aren't employed to dish out over-the-top kickings though - if someone is being a dick, then they should restrain him and call the police.
And then they can give him a good kicking instead.

The slam was fucking horrible and totally uncalled for. I can honestly say i have never met a decent doorman in my life however the days of me clubbing are long fucking gone!!
I really do not miss all the dick heads out now.
I much prefer a trip to Haydock races with the wife!

I remember an incident with the bouncers at 'Sands' at Stretford Arndale in the late '80s. For those that don't remember Sands, it was a soul and r'n'b focused club but always felt an edge to it probably because of the local clientele.

I came out one night and on the road 50 Yards away from the club entrance, some lad was having his head caved in by the bouncers. Lying on the floor getting kicked in the head. I went over and tried to stop the bouncers saying things like 'whatever he did he doesn't deserve this'. I thought the bouncers took it quite well as they immediately stopped. They then told me to wait there while they went back to the club. So like a nob I did.

A minute later I got a bad feeling as I saw them walk out of the club with baseball bats. Shouted to my mate to leg it which we did swiftly followed by the bouncers. I ended up running down a side street and doing a starsky and hutchy style forward horizontal dive over a garden wall into a hedge and lay under that hedge for about 2 hours as I constantly heard them walking past trying to find me. Both me and my mate finally made it back home in one piece but it took us about 4 hours of covert manoeuvring to go about a mile.

I shudder to think what would have happened if they'd have caught us, so like many have said I don't really have much time for these thugs.

Just to look at things from the other side, my uncle was on the same door at Sands one night when some kid they'd turned away earlier turned back up and shot dead his mate stood two feet away from him. He also had his throat cut with a Stanley knife one night. Another night he was pepper sprayed and then kicked into a coma.

Of course there are some knobheads. But these days especially, they are regulated quite strictly. I can't imagine a worse job. Standing there night after night taking shit off pissed up dicks who think they're Rocky after a couple of Stella's. I think most of them deserve a fucking medal for the restraint and patience they show most of the time.
