Yes but is that a return or one way?

return.

How far is the ground from the station? I am looking to book it the same way - flying to Amsterdam then return train from there. Need to know what times to look at booking trains so we have enough time to have a booze and get there etc

10.34 gets into Dortmund at 1.20pm. Plenty of time for a booze!

I booked manchester-Munich/munich- Dortmund return. A night in Munich and a night in Dortmund. Both 4* hotels and was less than £200pp. Home late Wednesday night though 11pm. Did dusseldorf for the friendly and although it's a mint place for a drink the train shit after the game was a pain in the arse, will be bobbins if we take a few thousand over with the majority wanting the train after the game. only had to use 2 days holiday aswelfor this one, used 4 for Madrid

Was thinking of stopping in Dusseldorf and getting the train back after. Do you have any more info on the trains? Was the problem just a lack of train availability at that time of night?

And does anyone know if the free matchday train travel would include a train from Weeze airport to Dusseldorf/Dortmund? I'm assuming not.

The train will turn up, but it may take three or four hours to get back to Dusseldorf after the game.
You've got to get out of the stadium, find your way onto public transport, to the station, wait for the train, then it's at least an hour and a half back to Dusseldorf, where no matter what the result, you'll be knackered and won't feel like a beer
Stay in Dortmund

Not true. Train takes 35mins and wont be as busy as when we played Schalke and about 3000 stayed in dusseldorf that time. Nothing going on in Dortmund after the game ask people on here who have been before.

This.

Save the hassel. We went to Schalke and the ques for the trains after the game with both sets of fans trying to get here there and everywhere were massive.

We're staying in Dortmund after the game. The hassel of getting back to dusseldorf or cologne after the game would be shit for me.

-- Mon Sep 03, 2012 8:47 pm --

By the time you get back to Dusseldorf chances are there might not be much going on there either?

We got back last time about 12ish and was still out at 4ish. Im just going off advice heard dortmund is not very lively where as Dusseldorf is, its only 35 mins.

you will be at 11.00 or so at dortmund station, maybe getting a train 11.10, takes at least an hour to Düsseldorf ( which train you found running it in 35 minutes?), you will be there shortly after midnight and than you have to get to the Altstadt from the station.

(and it´s december, weather trouble could affect train times).

Of course, still time to be out till 4, but at least you should take it into consideration

Google my friend. What's your take on nightlife after the game im just going off comments on here. Not booked anything yet just weighing it up.

if it helps - have checked bahn.de train site for the Tues 4th Dec re Dortmund back to Dusseldorf

Train at 23.12 is fine - takes 53 mins -

but if you can't make this then next is at 23.53 and takes 90 mins, so 1.30am before back and having beer again (too long/too later for me)

then next one 01.52 and from what posters earlier in thread have said you have to pay once it's gone past midnight, your match ticket no longer valid for free travel

I'd prefer to stay in Dusseldorf as I did for Schalke but the train home was a ballache.
That 23.12 would be fine - back by midnight. Just not sure if we can make it. I assume the kick off is 8.45 local time - so finishing about 10.35 - is that right?

Any of our German posters comment if we'd make it back to the station for the 23.12 train?

Or will we be kept in the ground after the final whistle?
Flight back from D'dorf airport is at 10:30 so will be back to D'dorf after the game at some time that night

yes, but its an ICE train, normally not included in your match ticket
