As others have said, Dusseldorf.

I flew into there last week with Lufthansa, and public transport around the area is great.

Paderborn airport is close. Cologne is a great city and not too bad on the train to Dortmund.

Speaking as someone who also counts himself as a BVB fan, do not stay in Dortmund whatever you do. There really is nothing there. Stay at Düsseldorf and get the train in. If you get a local train that takes around 1hr 10m, then your match ticket will get you the rail travel for free.

Get to dusseldorf. Then into the old town for the street full of bars. Top memories from the dortmund friendly!!!
