Dortmund away travel advice please

Sadly for me and those like me (who is like me, damm few), Spike has yet to realise the potential of taking one, two or four of us from Northern Ireland on his european jaunts unless we travel to Manchester first, so independent travel it has to be.
Got to the end of booking flights when the airline said they did not accept Maestro cards (even though it is a part of the mastercard group, which they do accept,) so will have to try and re-book it tomorrow.
Ah well, still Buzzing with the draw, 6 top quality games and three top quality trips with not too far to travel for any of them, just a pity I cant afford them all at the minute.

We stayed in Dusseldorf when we went Schalke. Was the best weekend away Ive ever had.

Was in Duss & Koln a few weeks ago for the 5th time in 4 years. Both are amongst my favourite European Cities. Well worth staying for a few days if you can get the time off work. Amazing place and the transport in the region (NRW) is as as good as it gets. Both Duss and Koln have regular trains from the airport to the City.
Plenty of flights, so should be able to get a decent deal. To put it in perspective we had 4 nights in a Holiday Inn with brekkers and return flights for £120.
Once I've boxed Madrid off, I'll look into this trip as the Christmas markets are on and they piss all over the Manchester ones.

I have priced this up and for 2 nights with flights and digs its coming in at around £200. Cheaper if fly from Birmingham

Yes it was a great atmosphere in the town the night before the game and yes it was easy to travel to Gelsenkirchen on the train the day of the game, but it was after the match and the getting to the station, waiting for the train and then the hour and a half journey back that was a pain in the arse
As DeNiro said, if you can, book it with Spike direct. Even if it works out £20, £30 or £40 more, it'll save all the hassle
