I went to Madrid and managed to avoid the police for the whole day (had heard stories before I went about their brutality so steered well clear!) If you manage to do that and keep out of their way, you'll have a good time. Plaza Mayor is very expensive though!
Thanks for that! Will definitely try to stay away from them, already had one shit experience there in Seville couple of years ago.

Go to Plaza Mayor and leave the surrounding bars alone, just nip to one of the shops down the ally ways and grab yourself some cold cans of beer and a bottle of vodka, sit in the Plaza and have a game of football, cheap afternoon.

Good advice, thanks. Wouldn't have expected Madrid to be so expensive at the moment with the financial crisis. Quite surprised, tbh.

Well said mate.

We're staying at Hotel Tryp, near the University for the return game. I'm trying to do every Bundesliga ground this season so I might need a few Dortmund connections for tickets.
One thing occurred to me on Wednesday. A lot of German teams have a freindship with another club, often from the same division. It's completely alien to the English, but Shalke sell FC Nurnburg souvenirs in their own Club Shop and visa versa.
Do Dortmund have a second club?[/quote]

Hi,
1. We've used to have a connection with Hamburg (HSV), but not any longer. Some are trying to get a connection with Cologne. But as some stated already currently there is really no friendship with another club. Maybe we should hook up with Sch...04 or with the Bu(money)ryn ;-).

2. Staying in Dortmund. Your hotel is good and close located to the stadium, you could actually see it from there. When you search on <a class="postlink" href="http://www.hrs.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.hrs.com/</a> you should go for Hotels which are close to the main train station! I strongly can recommend: NH Dortmund-Koenigswall 1, 44137, Dortmund

3. Tickets, there are several ways to look for tickets. First of all check the seating plan <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bvb.de/?%98Y%1B%E4%F4%9D" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bvb.de/?%98Y%1B%E4%F4%9D</a> the away section (where also you guys will be placed during the CL game) are on the north side 60,61. If you go for tickets you should try the lower tiers, for example 62, 63 (great view onto the south stand). Ways to get a ticket:
a) via the official BVB side <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bvb.de/?%86%98_%1B%E7%F4%9D" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bvb.de/?%86%98_%1B%E7%F4%9D</a> (only in German unfortunate)
b) via Eventim <a class="postlink" href="http://www.eventim.de/eventreise-borussia-dortmund-bvb-heimspiele-saison-20122013-Tickets.html?affiliate=EVE&doc=artistPages%2Ftickets&fun=artist&action=tickets&erid=472994" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.eventim.de/eventreise-boruss ... rid=472994</a> (also in German). Here you get 2 nights in a hotel, the ticket, a voucher for the gift shop and free entry to the BVB museum (which is great to visit at the stadium), so maybe something to think about.
c) Two BVB ticket shops: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.kartenvorverkauf-krause.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.kartenvorverkauf-krause.de/</a> and <a class="postlink" href="http://www.kartenvorverkauf-rupprecht.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.kartenvorverkauf-rupprecht.de/</a> (also everything in German)

If you have any troubles or issues getting a ticket or you need more Info, feel free to drop me an email!

Cheers,
Tom

To be fair the friendship between Schalke and Nürnberg is pretty special as it is one of the oldest (if not the oldest correct me if I am wrong Ruhr) in Germany and its carried by the whole fanscene basically.

However as mentioned above Schalke/Nürnber is a special one.

.
The Schalke-Nürnberg friendshp is older than 30 years now. Originally based on the hooligan groups of that time, which was than adapted by the other fans. The other friendship of Schalke is Twente Enschede. The one with Vienna is more related to the Nürnberg contacts.
Don´t know, if it is the oldest. Hertha BSC and Karlsruher SC is also lasting for more than 20 years. And Hamburg SV and Hannover 96 is a pretty good one.

Well, it´s the one day off from the usual hostile atmosphere at away matches. One match each season you sit together in pubs and celebrate

It all looks good on those YouTube clips except they still wear boot cut jeans in Germany I see

Always behind us here in England on a lot of things

Its expensive in the main tourist bar, chip as chips everywhere else!

Everytime I am in the UK I am surprised to see lots of young people wearing shoes with those velcro fasteners. In Germany you usually stop wearing them once you leave the kindergarden....different countries, different fashion I guess. ;)

The Bayern - Bochum friendship is also around 25 years but tbf I don't see the f##king point of "fan friendships", I'm not going to be told who I can like or dislike.
Over 25 years ago Bayern had a "Fan freundschaft" with Hertha. I can't stand Hertha so I ignored it.
Let's face it generally the more your club/fans are hated the more successful you are, success brings envy, envy brings hate. In that respect being hated is good.
Bayern and to a lesser extent BVB are loved and hated in equal measure. Nobody hates Schalke (other than BVB through local rivalry) as they haven't won the title since the world was in black and white.

I decided to just hate everyone besides my own team. Makes life so much easier...

Nur die SGE! ;)

Even in lower leagues the atmosphere is pure class. Look at 1.39 in the vid.

Is it still big different between east and west in Germany? I notice that the fans of the clubs in the east likes to pint out that they are from east germany.
