Travel and accommodation now booked. Was gonna wait till after Wednesdays game but then thought win, lose or draw we should be there supporting them in Europe.

As the song says, Over land and sea...

It'll be a party anyway, can't wait, just go with the idea of enjoying the trip whatever the result/situation.

For years we went away expecting f**k all, even to places like York and Chester, to go to Munich, Villareal, Naples, Madrid, Amsterdam, and Dortmund is a bonus, whatever the results, obviously good results make it better, but the bad ones don't ruin the trip for me.

Make sure he goes with the right attitude, don't worry about winning, just enjoy it. My lad had to wait until he was 18 to see us away in europe (ignoring TNS at the Millenium).

Just tell him how lucky he is, to appreciate what it means, and how lucky he is to be at the (relative) start of a long period of us playing away in europe.

Great times ahead for him.

Couldn't agree more. In recent years we've visited a great number of the European giants - Bayern, Juventus, Real Madrid, Porto and Ajax to name but a few. I reckon Barcelona, the Milan clubs and possibly Benfica would complete the set.

in my younger days following city i got to tns,grocklyn and belgium through the fair play league (and friendly v hamburg kev keegan, and ballymeena under pearce) so this is heaven! am treating it like our christmas do, will be a great trip! not stressed about winning! get in ...can t wait!

You better take RE ( Regional Express ) 1:

and not S-Bahn, because the trip with S-Bahn will last about at least 1:30h.
You also can use RE 4 oder RE 6, but the trip will last about an hour.
The tickets are valid for these trains too.

Problem will be that the RE3 is leaving Dortmund main station at 23:03
and RE4 at 23:09

Regionalexpress RE3
Richtung Düsseldorf Hbf
00:12 an Düsseldorf Hbf Gleis 9

23:09 ab Dortmund Hbf
R-Bahn RE4
Richtung Düsseldorf Hbf

The game is over earliest at 22:30 so they will probaly not make it.
Besides the ICE train (for which the match ticket is not valid) the S1 at 23:53 is the next best option the to Düsseldorf.

Thanks for the info mate. Is there any likelyhood that we will be kept in for a while after the game or will they let both sets of fans out at the same time?

Only reason I'm asking is that we really could do with catching the 23.53 train back to Dusseldorf. Looking at google maps, it's a 47 minute walk back to the station which should be more than enough time but if there is a significant delay in getting out of the stadium then it might be tricky. I know from earlier posts that there are stations near the stadium that serve the main train station so maybe no need to walk back but I'd imagine these would be extremely busy?

Didn't get held in after the friendly with Dortmund 2/3 years back. Left the Stadium a minute or so before the end and walked to the Station (10 mins. I think) and caught the train to Dortmund straight away. Very friendly Fans. Drank together with them in the Beer Garden next to the Ground before the game. If you don't get back in time to use your Free train pass there are trains after midnight (3am?) and it's 15.10 euros to Dusseldorf Airport. CTID

Trip for free in an S-Bahn. Relaxing and chilling. You will find a kiosk at the station where you can buy yourself some tins of beer and something to eat. And you can cool off better from the match you saw.

If you have the right persons around you you have one and a half hours of pub atmosphere... ;)

I think it might be 45 mins on the ICE train but it still looks good to me, trains with pubs on board, all we need now is a d j :-)
