Let me get this straight, ICE Train 20 Euros, takes 30mins back to Dusseldorf, and has a pub on board, why would anyone not take this option?

Cos you can get on the non-ICE trains for free with your match ticket and take your own cans on?

Thanks for the info mate. Is there any likelyhood that we will be kept in for a while after the game or will they let both sets of fans out at the same time?

Only reason I'm asking is that we really could do with catching the 23.53 train back to Dusseldorf. Looking at google maps, it's a 47 minute walk back to the station which should be more than enough time but if there is a significant delay in getting out of the stadium then it might be tricky. I know from earlier posts that there are stations near the stadium that serve the main train station so maybe no need to walk back but I'd imagine these would be extremely busy?[/quote]

No problem, you’re welcome!

I don’t think that they will keep you in since this should not be a high security game. So everybody can leave the stadium at the same time around 22:35 (over time ;-) ). The issue then is that around 60TSD people are leaving (still 20TSD less than at Bundesliga games, due to all seating regulation for CL). Lot of them will take the shuttle or/and go by car, but you also have a lot of people that take the subway to the main station (there are three close to the ground). Then one you should take is you leave the stadium and turn right then you go straight and then you see already the signs. So i guess it will take around 15 minutes (give and take some) before you arrive at main station. So that is why I think you should take it easy and go for the S-Bahn, buy some drinks and food. Maybe you get the RE, but i would not bet on that. You also have the option to take the ICE, but that cost you some extra money. The other trains are free with the match ticket.

Yepp. I think both options are working!

1. ICE
- fast train (around 50 minutes to Düsseldorf)
ICE 842
Dortmund Hbf
Di, 04.12.12
ab 23:12
Düsseldorf Hbf
Mi, 05.12.12
an
00:05
- Pub and Food on board (but you can also bring your own drinks and food if you want)
- 23,50 EUR = 18,89 GBP

2. RE (Regional Express) S-Bahn (Regional Subway train)
- Slower then the ICE. Between an hour (RE) and S-Bahn (1 and a half)
S 1
Dortmund Hbf
Di, 04.12.12
ab
23:53
Düsseldorf Hbf
Mi, 05.12.12
an
01:23
- you can bring your own drinks and food
- Free ride with match ticket

So I guess you have to decide.
If you are a group of people and have some time I would:
- Take it easy after the game, have a drink or two
- Go to the main train station by sub
- Buy some drinks and food (or eat something there! McD, Subway, German backery, etc.)
- Take the free ride home

On the other hand...if you never been on an ICE before...nice ride ;-)...drinks around 3 euros?

Is there a meet up place decided yet ?

Dont need one, just amble round Dortmund until you see the flags and hear the songs.
Went to Lisbon on my own last year (mates had been to porto, Munich and Naples and couldnt get the time off - passes from wifey or the dosh to go), tuesday evening had a beer with the Zenit fans and then went to the Benfica game, wednesday wandered about and met and chatted with various Blues and matchday morn and afternoon had a dander round meeting other blues having a beer where and when I felt like it. Great trip.

I can see where your coming from, just want to get back to the old town in Dusseldorf as soon as possible. Looking at those depart times might have to settle for the slow train anyway?

Funny thing is after tonight's result and the time of the year I think this could be one of the best away trips ever. Manchester City FC supporters Christmas party 2012 will take place in Dortmund/Dusseldorf 4th/5th December :-)
