Douglas Luiz

Taking Luiz on loan for the remainder of the season would make considerable sense. The moment we play someone in there who already understands both the role and the league, then the more the other midfielders and defenders are free to play their natural game. We'd suddenly get a great deal more out of Kovacic, Gundogan, and Bernardo if Luiz were sitting behind them.

The way I am looking at it next season is going to be tough. Club World cup little or no break. If we get champions league and the injuries hit again we need maybe a player more in each position. Or to cover a few areas. I think if Luiz comes we could still go for our main summer target too and technically have a mix of Luiz , Rodri and other in the midfield also maybe Koavic too. I feel we may have that player at the club in Nico O Reilly to take 1 of those positions but again maybe a loan out might help him develop and if it's for January to the end of this season I be in favour for that. Get him game time give him a taste of football more so if Luiz comes in.

I think O'Reilly looks far more comfortable further up the park, and I think we need to have someone in there for whom it is their preferred position.

Reinforcements make no difference to C/L qualification. The current squad will have to qualify, or not.
Edit unless you mean next season ,not the next round.
Yes I meant next seasons qualification. Reinforcements now in Jan (Luiz/Marmoush/etc) can help us secure a top 4 (possibly 5th) placed finish and qualification for next year thru our league position.

Signings can play potentially (if we qualify from the current League Stage) in the following rounds this season cant they? Thought that rule changed some years ago

We can make 3 changes to the C/L squad , after the league round.

I'd rather the club sign Luiz on a 6 month loan deal as long as there is no obligation to buy
than waste £60m (i.e. Phillips) on a player who is likely to be surplus to requirements presuming Rodri makes a full recovery.

Think a few on here will be pleasantly surprised at how good he actually is if we get him. You’d think we’re getting him from Oldham going off the last few pages. He’s a good player who will do a very good job for us when called upon
Yep he's a good player. Will do a job for us in a problematic position for the rest of this season.

He takes a great dead ball and also his crossing from open play must make Haaland's eyes light up.

If we get the Luiz from Villa then we're quids in.

If we get the bloke Juve are looking to get rid of after less than six months, eesh.

Luiz has only played 474 minutes this season, including just two full games, so the player we get is not entirely match sharp. That low figure should not be surprising, however, given that he played an astonishing 4,253 minutes for Aston Villa last season, and on top of that he also had international duties in the regular season and summer. Muscle fatigue might be expected.

If anything, the fact that he's had a bit of rest in recent months might be to our advantage should he sign.

They're the same player. Sometimes it takes time for players to find their feet & settle, especially if the move is to a foreign country.

Sometimes a move just doesn't work out like Ibrahimovic to Barça. It doesn't automatically mean the player has lost 8 years of professional ability in 6 months.

A loan with an option to buy would suit City, but be difficult for Juvé to swallow. If the loan's with an obligation to buy, Juvé can get a Luis replacement on the strength of that. If they get a permanent replacement & Luis returns, it presents a problem.

The only way this'll work is if Juvé can get a replacement on loan with an option to buy, or they promote from within. At the very least Luis will get back to playing football on loan, with his wages picked up by the loan club. This leaves Juvé holding all the cards.
