Douglas Luiz

It's just a tricky one
Hindsight being wonderful we should probably have brought him back in the summer
We didn't and we'd now be risking his fitness, we can't carry more fitness concerns right now (I do get there is no 100% guarantee on anyone we might sign)
Its also possible we looked at him ,but after doing well at Villa he didn’t fancy being a Rodri back up.Where now a loan he can rebuild his reputation, and we get a 6 for the rest of the season and then we see where the 2 parties go. Both side are in very different places to where they were in the summer.

The issue is it’s another squad player and not one that is necessarily going to help us competing in CL etc. Would much prefer someone with more mobility too.

We've only been lacking in that position since Dinho left in 2022, by which point Luiz had been gone for 3 years. We didn't exactly miss out - the timing wasn't right and we made a profit.
I’d push back on that and say we were deficient in that area in both 20-21 and in 21-22. Had we been stronger there, our trophy haul in those seasons might have been even greater.

Doubt there is anything in this. Just be another underwhelming signing.

At least a loan is not a gamble like Nunes, Phillips, Grealish etc

He’s not at the level required and highly unlikely he ever will be either.
