Douglas Luiz

Have you not watched us over the last 2 months? We've been utterly abysmal. Anybody competent, physical and mobile will make a massive difference to us right now.

Can somebody else improve us more? Perhaps, thats on Txiki to work out and get the best he possibly can but if Luiz is that, we would unquestionably be a much better side if hes lining up alongside kovacic in our midfield in a few weeks than whatever side we put out this weekend. What Pep wants from a holding midfielder in general terms hasn't changed, specifics obviously change game to game but he won't need a crash course on the basics, that's a big bonus.

Luiz makes a lot of sense. He knows the league and can instantly hit the ground running. He's not played much in the first half of the season so is fresh and he's at the right age profile. He could slot in alongside Kovacic and give us much more bite in the middle of the park. Takes a good set piece. And when Rodri is fit again he can easily play alongside him as well.

Didn't realise he was still only 26, plus 175 PL games played in five seasons for Villa makes for encouraging reading

Even if we have somebody better lined up for the summer, possibly someone like Zubimendi who will be a long-term fixture in the side, Luiz would still greatly improve the side for the rest of this season.

Given that’s he’s proven in the PL, I see little downside to it if the loan fee isn’t prohibitive.

People saying no to this are crazy imo. We have been a shambles for almost 3 months now.

Luiz played 53 games for villa last year, was the engine room to get them into the CL, also scored 9 league goals.

It's a no brainer for an initial 6 mths loan to steady the ship and work towards the summer window.

Also, is not a case of him " coming back", he was 20 when villa signed him having spent his entire "city" career at girona due to visa issues, there is no metaphorical baggage there whatsoever

Makes sense on loan, especially if we are going after Ederson as well this month.

Worst case he goes back to Juve in the summer as we get Rodri back and we can look for someone else.

Tuttosport reported City made an initial loan offer for Luiz but Juve wants to sell.

PS: How credible is Tuttosport? I have no idea.

His girlfriend is a professional footballer who plays for . . . Juventus.

Why do Juve want him gone after such a short time? Suspicious
Muscular problems on and off keep him out of any meaningful game time since October. Perhaps just unlucky. He rarely got any muscular problems during his Villa time. Very reliable and very good player.

The price Juve paid for him was definitely inflated. Maybe they want to pass down the bill to the next club.
