Doves

Interview with Jimi.

Thought it was a bit sad seeing him obviously struggling but it's a big step forward facing the public and the media head on.

Hope he's recovering well and every day is better for him.

Saw that a few weeks ago and I'm a bit concerned for Jimi. He's always had a lisp but his words aren't sounding clear at all. He cited he wasn't interested in playing live in a Doves interview but then announces this side project gig. I wonder if that's because he's not able to perform? I was almost wondering if he's had a minor stroke. My grandad sounded very much like that but it might be nothing and hope its just an off day/has a cold etc.

At least the band has his back and continue to see him, and he's supportive of them touring without him.

Oh wow Jimi was there.
That's great to see.
How was it?

How was Jimi?

Anything said to suggest he'll be back doing the winter tour?
Yeah Jimi was on good form as was they all and was chatting to everyone and seemed better than previously, though the Q&A turned into him and Jez having a ramble on and off topic.
Martin Rabeski was with them too as they called him up to come down and said he is the unofficial 4th member.

It was a small exibition of unseen photos and gig memrobilia plus a viewing of a song they wrote 18yrs ago but never used and when doing this new compilation LP they refound and are releasing

Went with a couple of blues, one being Debbie (original moonbeam) she did ask Jimi. as he was leaving will he be at the Apollo, his answer was "we"ll see"

Nice one.
Was it sold out?

I'm hoping Jimi plays the Apollo, would be so good to see him back.

Previously unreleased track off their forthcoming compilation album, originally from the "Kingdom of Rust" sessions...

It needs to be said if not prior, but some of the unreleased tracks that never made it onto Kingdom of Rust give many tracks that did a good run. I love this song, Andy's drums starting this off, Jez's guitar hooks, the backing vocals, and of course Jimi.

In other words, Doves have some damn good extra material. I wish I had heard this YEARS ago, but I will take it now, thanks @staffsblue.

Compilation is out today.

Me and the Mrs are going.
Can't wait but like you say it isn't going to be the same without Jimi.
You never know he might make a guest appearance with it being their hometown gig but I think it's pretty slim.
I'm still buzzing from seeing the charlatans last week at the academy, they was fantastic so I'm double up for it seeing Doves.

Anyone going to the Apollo on Saturday? Fear it won’t be quite the same without Jimi, but looking forward to it anyway.

I’m going. They’re obviously not the same without Jimi, some of my favourite songs of all time are my favourites because of his voice and the way he sings them… but they were still great at Aviva back at the start of the year, you won’t be disappointed!

Another cracking gig.

Obviously, Jimi was missed and always will be when he’s not there… the tones of his voice suit so many of Doves’ songs… but musically, they are a fantastic band.

Coming from a dance music background, they’ve always been brilliant at building a song to a peak and banging it out to make the song get you in the feelies.

They always have and always will be one of my favourite bands.
