Dr Michael Mosley missing on Greek Island | Body found (p 9)

I just find it weird that a highly intelligent guy with a great deal of knowledge of the human body would attempt a longish walk in 40C at or around lunchtime.

RIP though. Nice bloke.

When I read the report I did think it was a slightly bizarre action to take.

Really sad news. Sounds like he just collapsed from heat exhaustion. Bizarre he went out for a walk in that heat, but clearly thought it wasn't too far and he'd be okay.

The son-in -law who's a rather adventurous type, enjoys a good walk, he decided to have a walkabout on Rhodes. Somewhere north of Pefkos, about 2 ish in the afternoon. He became totally lost and exhausted with the heat. It was a few years ago, he was in his early thirties and quite fit. Luckily for him, a local appeared along a dirt track in an open back truck. He couldn't understand why on earth he'd be in that location especially at that time of day. He gave him water and dropped him off back in Pefkos. That Greek sun is one of it's own. I'm off there on Thursday but I certainly won't be doing any walking, apart from going to the bar.

I was working over in Florida during the summer a few years back when I was in my mid 40's. One Saturday I was at a bit of a loose end and decided to go for a for a mid-afternoon walk. Ended up doing around 10 miles steady pace on the flat in around 90F (32.2C) heat and high humidity. I managed to get through all my water (3l) at about 2/3rds distance.

I was relatively fit, but I still spent all day Sunday rehydrating.
