Driving to France/Spain

take other posts advice with overnight stops etc
being doing it for 10 yrs now ,its easy and relaxing
learn some basic français and the natives will appreciate you
bonne courage

Another good tip;
instead of putting GB plates on put Wales or Scotland tags on. Less chance of getting pulled by the gendarmes. (ooh-err)

Avoid the French national holidays when travelling, and all of August.

Very fair point again.

Having said that I was quite welcome in 2004 wearing an England shirt in SW France as world champions after they had won the Grand Slam.

My experience is that most French people are very kind especially if you speak Francais to them.

I agree about the french holidays and if you want to practice francais, <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tf1.fr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.tf1.fr</a> is very good.

Don't get me wrong pd, after living there for a few years i grew to love the country and was shown remarkable kindness. The coppers on the other hand...

I agree about trying to speak a bit of lingo as well. The basics like please, excuse me, thanks etc can get you a long way. And the French women love the sound of an English man speaking French.

the ferries to dunkerque were always best for me, about 20mins longer than dover to lias but zero hassle with queues made it quicker and easier overall

I drove to Gibralter once for work and we couldn't get across the border from Spain to Gib because of paperwork issues. Had to drive all the way back.

The toll roads will cost a fortune, but the non-toll roads aren't too bad time-wise and are beautiful in places.

La Linea ?
Lovely place eh.

Going in 10 days booked to france and just driving, Italian lakes prob stick to the N roads if you got time, no tolls and are pritty good. Miss Paris if you can. Got 3/4 weeks off so no rush to get any place
