Drugs

Hmm lot of sense in the legalise drugs and tax it idea but let's not forget even knowing how dangerous smoking is some people do it with kids in the car. What would be the situation? One of the aisles at Tesco dedicated to drugs and all the paraphernalia? Heroin on the top shelf of course so to be out of reach of kids? Cigarettes aren't on show any more in shops can't really see a time when drugs will be sold openly and legally

They already have that.

Ahhh alcohol you mean? Yes and it's quite common to see people buying that extra strong lager stuff and staggering around Albert sq at all hours of the day, what next people openly shooting up on the benches when I'm on my way to work? No thanks

The answer could be like in Switzerland where people go to dedicated centres. Buy their drugs and take there whilst supervised. Less people having an over dose. In time a lot if people have also been moved off the drugs.

Trouble in this country is we condemn most drug takers. Call them useless or criminalise them. It not that simple. People take drugs for many reasons. With the drug war to me it seems we lost the plot. Stopping the access to drugs has failed. Maybe now we aim at the reasons people take them. Try and understand and help.

Some will continue no matter what but if regulated they can be at least safe.

Why would you need help if you want to take an E, go to a club and dance to music? The last thing I would want under them circumstances is being supervised.

No, I meant they already have an aisle for paracetamol, aspirin etc.

Have a walk round near the high rise car park on Tib St. You will see a load of of used syringes discarded around there. Can you not see that the current attitudes towards drugs is actually making the issue far worse? The war on drugs in clearly not working and the problem is not going to go away. Attitudes have to change and people have to educate themselves about the real implications of drug use on society. It is no good burying our heads in the sand.

I had a mate who was in the drug squad in Manchester. His team did a raid on a posh house in Cheshire near Knutsford where they had a tip off that a large scale drugs orgy was in progress. The thing was, most of the participants were top judges, Policeman, politicians etc.

That was in 1978.

In my opinion the two most additive drugs are already legalised, Nicotine and alcohol so why not narcotics. I also suffered with a real bad gambling problem a couple of years ago. The amount of adverts on TV to push and promote gambling is ridiculous. Imagine the concept of advertising drugs. 'Buy your first gram of coke for 40 and your next one half price'
