Dry January...

Was doing alright til Wednesday, went to the shop for four pint cans just before kick off with the rags - no doubt can leave it until Sunday v Brum. I know football is my trigger, but f**k it. Doesn't feel right watching a City game without a beer, blame Stuart Pearce.

Bump. I’m giving this a bash. Going to be very challenging as I’m attending 6 football matches this month, and it’s part of my religion to drink when City are playing. I think the midweek games against Brighton and Galatasaray should be easy enough as I’ll be at work during the day so not much time at the game to go without, but tomorrow, Exeter, and Wolves will be a lot harder. As for the away derby, fuck knows how I’m going to navigate that one as a good or bad result could drive me to drink!

If anyone here has gone from heavy drinking to zero I'd really appreciate a chat please as it's the route I'm currently on. My situation is a bit different to most but I'm keen not to use that as an excuse and sometimes it's just best to admit you need someone better than you are at whatever task you are facing
Therefore if anyone managed it pls DM and be most appreciated. Ta.

I’m a big drinker but I often go the full off-season in the footy calendar from May to August not drinking to save a bit of money. I find it very easy really, helps that I don’t particularly love the hot weather or being hungover up in the hot weather.

I also like to get fit more over the Summer months without the footy, so giving myself cycling and weights sessions to focus on stops me fancying going to the pub.

This year, I’m planning on spending money on renovating and decorating my flat so I’ll be foregoing a lot of nights out and all-dayers at City throughout 2026. I’ll get a load of training in this year n’all.

Back in work on Tuesday. Off the beer from Monday until Saturday night. I’ve absolutely leathered it since Christmas Eve. Now and tomorrow and that’s it. I can’t do dry January, so it will be Saturday and Sunday only for the rest of January.

Not me mate but I do have a fair number of friends that are in AA and have been successfully off the booze for many years.

A couple of months ago I began to make a conscious effort to cut back. My mantra is now Four No More.
I have found it difficult sometimes though, because if I’m having a good afternoon or evening with it, I start to have problems keeping count.

I’ll buy you a pint the next time I see you mate. ;-)

This will be my fourth straight year of dry January. Not going to lie, it’s always a bit of a struggle, but it’s worth it as I sleep so much better and have so much more energy during the day. One day, I’ll do more than a month.
I did the recycling in October and saw how much I was going through, cut it out at the end of the month and didn't touch a drop until around 21st/22nd of December, slept better and felt pretty good, off it now again since nye, might aim for my 50th in February.

This is my 3rd year of doing it. Last year I was hardcore with everything else too, intermittent fasting, gym every day, limiting calories.

This year I’ve not put anywhere near the weight on that I usually do over the festive season, partially as got a new puppy at beginning of December and she’s kept me busy and out of the pub as much as I normally would be, consequently I’m just going for dry Jan with healthy eating.

Agreed, it’s the City games that are a killer, last year think we only had 2 home games whereas 5 or 6 this month and also I’m off to Newcastle for the semi final.

At least it’s cold so bovril feels justifiable.
