Dry January...

I would strongly advise people don't punish themselves with punitive New Year's Resolutions this year, I would say pick something small that is obtainable that you can then make a routine and build upon when things open up and you have enough social stimulation to give you strength and positive energy to do something bigger.

Of course, some people have a particular psyche and/or are gluttons for punishment and will achieve remarkable results, but I'd give your brain a stress break for the next few months on things you can control. It'll thank you when this shit is over.

I suspect many people are going to find themselves with genuine alcohol issues post lockdown. As said earlier by another,if you cant go a month without the stuff, you need to ask yourself some serious questions.

I have mates who currently think 24hrs is an achivement......not good.

Have your mates always been like that?

I was thinking of doing Dry January, but am having second thoughts now. With Tier 4 and things the way they are, life seems grim enough without depriving myself of one of the few pleasures I have left at the moment.

Ditto.

I did it last year but was able to fill the time up going to the gym, to games, gigs, visiting places, eating out and going on walks etc. With us being in Tier 4 there's no way I'm sitting in on a Saturday afternoon doing sweet FA especially if there's a prospect of a circuit breaker in football.

I will be honest, I did find it quite a slog doing dry January last year during certain times. It was all mental really and just focusing on different tasks and keeping busy. My birthday coincided with the end of dry Jan and it's fair to say I enjoyed quite a few drinks.

I actually think taking 1/2 weeks off here and there is much more effective and you don't tend to go wild either when you do have a drink.

I am not going to do dry January, I hate these sort of holier than thou events. Movember, Stoptober and so on. I also hate the competitive drinking culture, screeching women and once a year drinkers.
I hate this drink responsibly shit too.
Why can't people just be normal? Why do they have to abstain completely or get totally rat arsed?
Who is behind all this mass stopping drinking?
The NHS, Salvation army, Muslims - who?
I don't go out to get pissed (occasionally it happens!), but I do like a pint.
Being diabetic, I might have a cake free January, who's with me? !
I stopped drinking in April due to being type 2, had a couple over Christmas and will have a few tonight then back on the waggon for about 10 months

Not been able to complete a dry January recently as we usually have a week‘s skiing somewhere in it. And you can’t not drink whilst on your hols.

But with everywhere closed I thought I’d give it a go this year.

I've done 'Dry January' for a few years now, this year did January and February and then, because of over indulging during lockdown, November as well. I find the first week a bit of a struggle but after that I'm fine and sleep like a baby.

I remember falling asleep being a lot easier after 2 weeks in to not drinking. I also remember having some very weird dreams.

Remember reading Melvyn Bragg I think it was (but I maybe wrong), used to have one dry week every month - sounds easily achievable I think.

I’m going for it this January. Did it a few years ago and didn’t quite last the month.

I've not had a dry day since Lockdown started in March. Seriously considering dry January. After tonights Baileys, 8 cans of bitter then vodka and lemonade
It’s worth it mate.

I did two weeks up until Christmas Day, made sure I did productive stuff round the house, went for walks, read over watching TV, felt so much better for it and enjoyed it.

Got hammered Christmas Day and Boxing Day mind you.

You'd be better starting on Monday
Wind down for a couple of days

And when you feel the urge for a beer drink a glass of iced water

Tried dry January in 2010, and not touched a drop since. Honestly don’t miss it, especially the hangovers.
