He is right, if City want to turn up to play another team that fans PAY to see, they should put a shift in, or as another poster has said, let the fans in for free. City were crap against Dundee and there is no excuse for it in my opinion. We have a good reputation in Scotland but playing like we did on Sunday will do nothing but diminish it. Thankfully the fans that took the trouble to attend were fantastic as ever.
Hearts next stop and City need to show them and their fans some respect by playing to the best of their ability, our fans will be there and deserve to stand in the bar after the game knowing that we played to the best of our ability, if Hearts beat us fair enough, in the scheme of things regarding the PL it does not mean anything, it does however mean something to those of us that will be attending, we are paying a lot of money to see a football match, not City players jogging round a pitch pretending to get fit.
Sorry for the rant but I'm old school and I hate to see City lose whoever or whenever they play, saying its a shit friendly is also sour grapes if we get beat too...!!
The game was part of a specific build-up to try and get the best out of the squad during another very long and difficult season where they have to compete in 4 competitions, excluding international games. Nowadays there is a much more carefull and individual planned build-up and this game is part of that. It's not about the result, not even about the performance, it's about the build-up according to plan. August 16th is when it really matters.
I'm old school as well (don't know why that has to do anything with this, but nevermind), I was there when City played Hearts in a friendly in -I think- 1981. I was there to enjoy myself with other City-fans, having a great day out in Edinburgh, and watching City without the nerves and adrenaline. Nowadays preseason is not different other than I had to skip the trip to Edinburgh and instead enjoy myself on a day out at Wembley in a few weeks time. Even that match is part of the build-up, although the expectation will be different than the one City played at Dundee.
