Dundee, July 13th - shocking match report (page 36)

Did I miss something here or did City, the reigning Premiership champions, not just provide Dundee F C with a fairly prestigious pre-season friendly that attracted a crowd of nearly 7,000. Not too sure what the average gate is for a friendly at Dundee, but I'd wager it's not that amount and, at £25 a ticket, must have been a decent earner for Dundee, which is excellent news. So, for David McCarthy to suggest that City would not be welcome in the future is a little off the mark I think.

Excellent pont. The crowd average last season was 4,738.

This made today's Football 365's Mediawatch section ...

Mediawatch rarely turns to the Daily Record due to its unashamed sensationalising of every minor story but, on a day dominated by the start of The Open, we've been forced to head north of the border.

Much to our relief, we weren't disappointed, as David McCarthy treats us to the biggest overreaction to a pre-season friendly in the history of meaningless pre-season friendlies.

'Dundee defeat showed that Manchester City's millionaires are nothing more than a shower of shameless slackers,' blasts the Record's headline following City's 2-0 defeat to the Scottish minnows.

It gets better as an outraged McCarthy writes: 'I don't know how many Manchester City fans turned up at Dens Park on Sunday for their team's first pre-season friendly but every single one of them is due an apology...

'By my reckoning, that lot who were beaten 2-0 by Dundee cost more than £141m. That is utterly mind-boggling and for that kind of outlay, the least you'd expect is a bit of effort.

'Instead, the Man City fans in the crowd witnessed an exercise in going through the motions. Their attitude stank the place out. They treated it like a training session and they couldn't give a toss.'

Perhaps that's because it essentially was a training session, David? Perhaps City's only responsibility in such a meaningless friendly - their first of pre-season - was to work on their fitness and avoid pushing themselves too hard. If you take a quick look around, you'll see plenty of similar results at this time of year.

But of course, you're right - sack the lot of them. They're a disgrace.

But what kind of 'story' would have come dribbling off the rancid pen of this pillock had MANUre gone down 2-0. I suspect it would have been wholly complimentary with reason piled upon reason as to why. Nothing changes. Were we to outstrip the DIppers' European trophies over the next few years and haul in the titles that MANUre stole off the rest of the PL, the stories about MCFC would remain the same. We'd still hear tales in 2045 that the Good Sheikh will soon get fed up of his 'project' and with 99% of the team coming from the Academy we'd still be enlightened with tales of players only coming for the money. The Rag/Dipper Meedya promote a Rag/Dipper Agenda. Nothing will change.

I was at Dens Park on Sunday and think that the reporter had a fair point, but he may have missed out on a bit more of the story. I was in St Andrews on Saturday evening so didn't attend the open training session at the Stadium. Entry was by producing your match ticket and everyone was put in one end behind the goal and I'm led to believe that the players then trained at the other end! After the game a lot of young fans were eagerly waiting with their Autograph Books, but the players didn't even go down to them at the end. I think Nasri was a main culprit and for the Blues who were at the game and were unaware, seemingly that is why the home crowd were booing him.

so he gets booed during the game then they expect him to be nice after ???
