Dzeko (Merged)

Looking better by the game IMO. Will probably take a few months until we see the best of him unfortunately and he definitely seems to be a confidence player (as are most strikers) but we've seen 10% of what Dzeko is capable of and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he outscored Rooney in the league this season.

A couple of goals and there will be no stopping the lad.

Agree, dont think it takes time though, it takes games. And we have alot of games.

I think i'm wasted. Too much to drink and smoke? Has to be, cos i'm reading from a minority of posters that Dzeko's first touch is shit.

The improvement in Dzeko's game since he moved from Teplice to Wolfsburg was clearly evident to anyone who watched him develop from a fairly poor league in the Czech Rep. to the Bundesliga in Germany. He continued to learn from those around him.

1 thing he didn't need to improve was his first touch. His touch has been one of his greatest assets throughout his career, hence why Wolfsburg bought the lad 3 years ago, when he didn't have a great goals to game ratio.

He has played 8 games for City so far, and the improvement between when he first arrived to what we saw today is immense, unless i'm watching a different Edin Dzeko who plays for another Manchester City.

I do wonder, cant be arsed going back through the past posts, if the supporters, if you can call them that, that have been criticising Edin, are in the same groups that slagged the following after a handful of games.

Tevez
De Jong
Yaya
Kompany
Kolarov
Balotelli (Best still to come)

You'd think some would learn. I remeber people slating Kompany when he first joined, when he was playing as a DM, i remember people questioning De Jong by asking what he actually does during a game, I remember people saying the rags were right about their criticism's of Carlito.

Seriously, some of you are the most impatient and petulant bunch i have had the pleasure of reading on any forum. People have always said it takes time to get used to the pace of the PL. It has been proved many times. Drogba, Ronaldo and Nasri are just 3 examples. The plus for City is that if Kompany and De Jong are the blueprint of how long it takes to get upto speed coming from the Bundesliga, we wont have long to wait to see Edin in full flow.

excellent post Ric. [You're getting better with age!] Can't disagree with any of that, except not 100% convinced about Yaya yet.[skill superb, attitude at times?]

Re: Dzeko

He's not bad but from what I've seen he dosn't deserve to start.
Hes not quick enough or talented enough to fit properly into our system.

Balotelli and Tevez is a far stronger partnership at the moment in my opinion.

I think some are mistaking touch with decision making. It can make his touch appear bad, but what's really happening is that he doesn't know what to do with the ball intuitively as it reaches his feet. He knows what he would do at Wolfsburg, but he feels the pressure to integrate into our system, and that is causing too much thinking with the ball at his feet rather than a more intuitive quick response. So even the most natural things we see on TV can be labored for a man who is thinking too much on the pitch. Every time he is near the goal he looks of two minds whether to pass or shoot. In situations that are more obvious (his assist to Tevez today), notice how quick his decision making was. He didn't have to think about such an obvious situation, he just reacted and that was the result.

He will get it, no doubt.

Re: Dzeko

I was underwhelmed by the untalented way he disguised his shit first touch with a single fluid movement to guide a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Tevez today.... he's just shit. Yes, he worked his socks off, won balls, scored a header, took 3 of their defenders to mark in the box, constantly found space... but he's just not talented enough or quick enough. We need good players that impress on xbox, and don't need 3 games in our team to develop understanding with teammates. What the heck is Mancini thinking getting players of provable character, intelligence, skill and instinct? Wasn't Carroll available for a mere $35m? Shocking decision. Bosnian waste of money.

Erm, Džeko was MILES better than Balotelli today...

You do realise that over the past few seasons Džeko has easily been amongst the best strikers in the world? Both in the air and on the ground? And assisting?

How anyone can judge partnerships on Tévez and Džeko playing like 2 games together in the middle is beyond me, and even Balotelli has only played in the middle with Tévez a few times...

With respect, how on God's earth has Balotelli done more to convince you of his worth than Dzeko?
