Wish Dzeko well.
Thanks for some awesome memories.
Thanks for some awesome memories.
Absolutely laughable. Really am shocked by this one.
People can say what they like about Txiki, seems to be a growing and contrasting divide between those who are rabidly 'positive' or 'negative' on this forum.
I'm just going to call this as I see it.
We tapped up Sterling for months, were eventually given an asking price by Liverpool. Started with an opening bid half of their asking price, only to eventually more or less meet their asking price a month later with several incremental bids over a period of weeks.
That is this summer's real success story so far. A great signing, but a protracted and messy transfer where we went in with the attitude that we wouldn't be taken for mugs as the only buyers at the table, and then paid the asking price more or less in full a month later.
We then let Jovetic go out on loan to Inter with an obligation to buy in two years, an Inter that has just spent £30m on Kondogbia. Jovetic's final fee will be circa £12m with add ons - to be received in two years time, likely in instalments.
We've signed a couple of decent youth prospects for the EDS, and activated a decent squad options buyout clause.
We've been tapping up De Bruyne for circa 9 months, have presented terms to his agent, and are still at loggerheads with Wolfsburg over a fee having only recently presented them with our opening bid going into the second weekend of Premier League fixtures.
We invested months into trying to acquire Pogba, only for him to be seemingly noncommittal, and for us to be entirely blindsided by issues with image rights. Deal looks dead as a Dodo. We put all our eggs into the Pogba basket, and the one reasonable alternative in Kondogbia has moved to Inter in that time.
We've allowed a guaranteed 20 goal a season, 29 year old striker, to go on loan to Roma for a year, for a small up front fee, with no obligation to buy, and an option to buy in a year which would net us no more than £12m including add ons. This is a player Txiki gave a brand new bumper contract to a year ago.
The same with Kolarov: gave him a new contract, couldn't shift him out for a younger player and upgrade, with him happy to stay on his new contract, only for the player we looked at extensively this year, Baba Rahman, to join Chelsea.
Someone tell me our business couldn't have been better managed? As far as I'm concerned it's piss poor.
Txiki's modus operandi is to land Guardiola, if he fails to do that in 12 months then his reign as director of football has been more or less a failure. We still get taken over a barrel selling players, and we still pay inflated fees bringing players in - we just posture for a bit, and then cough up anyway.
The average age of our squad has grown into one of the oldest in Europe under his stewardship, only to be, very slowly, addressed this year.
Not impressed, frankly.
Soriano's been a commercial success for the club, but has drawn a wider wedge between the club and supporters than has been so in a long time. He's been a success however from a commercial and financial perspective for the club, he's fulfilled his brief.
Not sure the same can be said of Txiki, to be honest.
If Guardiola snubs us for a second time, after we've gambled the club's short to medium term future on him saying yes this time round, then Txiki can fuck off as far as I'm concerned.
As an aside for the inevitable flak that'll come with a critical opinion: no I'm not a rag, and yes I was at the Hawthorns on Monday night serenading David and co. I'm content at present with the club, albeit my biggest gripe is the wedge growing between the club and the supporters as I briefly touched upon previously, but all things considered, this is obviously an incredible time to be a blue. I'm just very sceptical of Txiki's work at present, feel free to disagree, I'm just giving my interpretation of things at present.
