Early Christmas Decorations.

I love it when people go on about how "christmas is too commercial" etc like they are fucking Noam Chomsky or something. They always say it with a smug look on their face too like they are the only person on earth who has come to this amazing conclusion. You aren't some kind of genius political commentator for working that out you plank, now get me a mince pie and shut the fuck up

For many people who have no hobbies or interests - apart from shopping and watching telly - Christmas is a genuinely exciting time as it represents a bit of variety in their lives.

So it makes sense for them to make a huge thing of it, and to start doing so very early.

It really is a damming indictment of our consumer culture I don't mind Christmas but people are being taken in by the retail industry

That's how I see it too. It's in the interests of the retail industry to make Christmas last as long as possible. Same with Easter and Halloween.

I was a Christmas addict a few years back and dear me did I make a fuss about decorations. I'd be itching by now to get decor up and once I had it up I'd be arranging and rearranging it several times. I'd strip and redo the tree 3 or 4 times because the lights weren't evenly spread.
Now Im just like Scrooge and couldn't give a bollock and would barely hang a dirty sock over the fire. Humbug,

Why the epiphany? I hope you appreciate the word epiphany in this context.

A few years ago there were two days that most retail workers were guaranteed to get off Christmas day and Boxing day, but Boxing day has now become a normal trading day for the people that are paid the least, and this is what gets my goat, from the beginning of November (and earlier in some cases) they are trying to get people to part with their money for what effectively is a one day holiday, and then come out with stock phrases "It's what Christmas is about" and all that malarkey

I like the break and I like the general atmosphere closer to the event, but give me a break it's November FFS

Get over yourselves. Christmas is brilliant :-)
I've been out for new decorations today. Can't wait to put them up.
