Eastlands and the surrounding area today.

I said the same thing re the halo being dropped on this thread a week ago.

Sorry for bumping this thread, and apologises if it's been posted elsewhere. However today I was told by workmen in and around the stadium the "Halo" destined for above the club shop has been in their words "Canned".

Apparently it can't happen in it's present form, so it won't be appearing for the start of the season, something to do with a flaw in it's design and anchoring it to the ground properly.

Anyway shared just by a fan spending £100+ in the store today and asking a few questions to some "Navies" with high viz vests on, walking around doing now't, but at the same time looking busy!

Interesting.

TBH it wouldn't surprise me if City abandoned the City Street proposal until Summer 2011/12 season. Not saying that's going to happen. It's now mid June and work still hasn't started yet and the planning application is still a temporary one. Time isn't on City's side. Interesting few weeks ahead for this proposal.[/quote]

I heard a while back that this is not happening now, didnt wanna say anything incase i heard wrong but now its mid june and nothings happening im guessing i heard right.

(Sportcity Advance Warning, major road and footpath works June and July 2010).

They have started what I can only describe as cosmetic changes to all the sections of tarmac right around the stadium. The old tarmac around the stadium is grey and bordered by lines of inlayed sandstone coloured bricks which were in rows of six, they have been taking out two rows of the bricks from along the edges, and filling the gaps with black tarmac, which makes it all stand out more.
It is hard to explain, but trust me it looks pretty good, and it is purely cosmetic and nothing to do with draines ect, as I watched them taking out the bricks and just filling the gap straightaway with tarmac and rolling it.
They wasn't wasting anytime doing it too, they were flying around with plenty of men on the job!

I also noticed a large office style portacabin being delivered and put down outside entrance Y, just along from the ticket office.
This is possibly the site office for City Street, as the carparks to both sides and the rear of the City Store has been fenced off with low barrier fencing, and they were also having delivered what looked like large metal site fencing panels, these were being off loaded at the side of the store.

Think you heard wrong, went today to the shop and there are signs around the stadium about major building work going on from now right through July.

I work in purchasing for a company based in Preston and I was speaking to a supplier last week. He had just been into Manchester to see a client re the supply of non-slip decking for around the city store. He didn't know i was a city fan, and he's a boro fan, so he's not likely to be bullshitting or making it up. Said it was required for July. He went on to talk about city street and the halo etc and how one side is for family's and the other side is like a stage and bar area for adults. Not quite sure what the stage is all about ??? He didn't have too many of the finer details or plans etc as they only supply cladding/decking.

The thought of trying to get on a tram outside the COMS after a match actually fills me with dread. Can you imagine the push and shove??

Think I'll stick to walking back to Picc thanks.
