Easy Changes to Improve the game.

I’m not saying you should agree but that’s not really a reason in itself to be against it.

I might be wrong here but I don’t think they ever show adverts between full time and extra time. Or extra time and penalties.

You don't watch many foreign channels I take it?

You may be right, but if you Institutionalise between 20 and 30 5 and 10 second delays each game I can easily see the income signs flashing in the corridors of the mighty. And by that, to be clear, I mean the PL.

If you are looking for other reasons to be against it:

Part of the appeal of football is its continuous nature. It's 90 minutes of action-packed entertainment (or it should be if stoppages are refereed properly), not a sequence of plays like some other sports. Even jockeying for position at throw-ins, or at goalkicks has an interest (or it should have if time taken is refereed properly) that would be lost if playing time was stopped with unlimited time taking for the restarts.

Also, time-wasting isn't just about wasting time. It's also about breaking concentration / stopping momentum. That would only get worse if stops in playing time were institutionalised, for the same reason.

At the end of the day, I just think there are better, existing ways of managing ball in play time by actually refereeing properly, than needlessly tinkering with a 150 year old law of the game.

- Mandatory subs (3 to 5) and they must play at least 20 mins.
- Sin bin for players who are shown a yellow in consecutive games (2nd yellow = sin bin)
- Yellow cards for anyone who back chats officials

I don’t watch any foreign channels since pubs stopped using them. Well apart from when I’m on holiday.

I don’t think any of that necessarily has to be lost without the clock continuously running. It is still supposed to be a free flowing game. The referee will still be in his rights to hurry players along, or even discipline them, if he thinks they are taking the piss deliberately slowing down the game. He just probably won’t have to do it that often and the clock won’t be running while he is. 51:23 the ball was in play last night at Arsenal.

Please no to stop the clock and reduce the 90 minutes. Remember the clamour for VAR because apparently it would stop all controversial decisions? Same with this being seen as the magic bullet to stop timewasting. It's applying the "Politician's Solution"; a problem exists, there are ways to reduce it, but lets pick the worst and most radical one because that will definitely stop it without doubt.

Fair enough.

I just don't see the point for the sake of an extra 8 minutes when the referee already it has it in his power to hurry players along or discipline them. Too many potential downsides for me.

I know you won't agree, but the introduction of VAR was universally welcomed. That hasn't stopped it becoming a pig's ear because of how it has been implemented. I have less faith than you maybe do that the authorities won't bollocks up a stop-clock with unforeseen consequences as well.

Just apply the LotG as they are now and most of the problems are solved without radical change, IMHO.

Imagine going to a concert and the show stopping every few minutes whilst the crewe changed the instruments or setting, leading to some of the best numbers being excluded when the gigs over.

The solution to many of these irritations is common sense and the will..

Where there's a will there's a way, but common sense isn't very common !!

Just make our weak and useless referees enforce the existing laws of the game properly. Book timewasters early and often, not in the 89th minute. Treat it as what it is - despicable cheating that threatens the viability of the game
Does my head especially regarding the keepers they know what there doing they allow it to go on and then magically they will fly up to book them in the latter stages ....... nothing but a token gesture
