Easy Changes to Improve the game.

If the PL ever had the good fortune of having me on the PiGMOL list the first game I had I'd be in the dressing room telling the teams that the first fucker who attempts to waste a second will be booked, and that includes dawdling off when yer've been subbed. I think the clock should be stopped for goal kicks and throw ins. We never seem to get anything approaching the time we've seen being wasted by every fuckin' goalie who turns up at The Etihad, and we never seem to have a definitive statement as to where and why we end up with what the fourth official deems to be a minimum. VAR and the clock are two ways of which I have the utmost suspicion! The notion of 'added time' is a construct that keeps the timekeeping in the hands of the officials with a good deal of mystery added.

We got enough added for Aguero to score, and not much added when we had taken the lead against Villa so I'm alright with it in general!

It’s important to remember that when 90 minutes was settled on as the length of a game of football over 150 years ago, it was never the intention that the ball was going to be in play for the whole time. It’s widely thought by football historians that 90 minutes from first whistle until last carried on for about 25 years until an Aston Villa goalkeeper decided to deliberately kick the ball out of the ground with a couple of minutes left and by the time it was retrieved, time was up. So injury time was born. But taking a reasonable amount of time to restart the game after a stoppage has always been incorporated into the 90 minutes.

That said, time wasting has become a curse of the game and the authorities have shown a desire to try and combat it. Making players leave the field after an “injury” was an admirable attempt to reduce fake injuries. But I think it’s time that was scrapped, as it’s just used to slowly hobble off and waste even more time.

I think we’re definitely slowly heading towards at least an experiment with a stop clock. And I’m all in favour. How long they decide on is debatable. But there’s no need to come up with a figure that is then cast in stone. They can play about with it in minor leagues and youth football until they find the time that best fits the original idea of a 90 minute game including reasonable stoppages.

Stop-clocks would be a horrible idea. It wouldn't take the broadcast companies ten minutes to realise the value of ads in these clock "breaks". We would have 5 second, ten second ads every time the ball went out. Not for me. Just get the refs to do their bloody job properly.

Ah that was down to Agent Joey kickin' off and Gundog got his second well before we got a sniff of the fourth officials lying board!

My point is, there's still plenty of time to win games and when it comes to the latter stages when you're trying to win you just have to start that urgency sooner, like from the first minute! They didn't play anywhere near the full added time when we played Villa, but I was more than happy they blew the whistle early!

I’m not saying you should agree but that’s not really a reason in itself to be against it.

I might be wrong here but I don’t think they ever show adverts between full time and extra time. Or extra time and penalties.

I’ve always liked the idea of ball needing to be out of play for final whistle, like in Rugby.

Fouls would be ok.

Can you imagine the excitement, needing a goal and we were passing the ball to create a final opportunity not having to rush.

Would lead to an increase in last kick goals/ chances etc.

However, overall the game is pretty great hence how much we all watch/ play.

Having watched football all me life I have seen various types of time wasting. Players used to backpass from the halfway line and it'll be very annoying.

Fastforward so many years and players held up ball in the corner flag which seemed to start late 90s.

Then something I had never seen was Jose's Porto team vs Celtic, the Time-wasting was horrific, but that crept into our league with Chelsea killing off games

This season though, it's whole new levels. Players get kicked with a ball fall down, goalies stroll for the ball and can take up to a minute for a goal kick, throw ins take longer, players are feigning head injuries and are fine a minute later. Every free kick is taking an age.

For me refs need to stamp it out the very first time it's done. Even if it's the first half after 10 minutes. Not in the 88th minute when it doesn't matter.

I like the idea of that but don't see how it could work!

Any player that rolls over more than once is banned for two games.
And any who do like the Everton player who rolled over 4 times realised he was going out of touch and roll back the other way.
That's a ten game ban nothing pisses me off more
