Pot Noodle.

At over a quid a throw, it's hardly a cheap option. Cheap supermarket noodles at under 20p a packet is a far better option.

When my daughter was at uni, I used to make her meals at home, freeze them, and then send them back with her. Ten pound of spuds(leave the skins on, they go further), bag of frozen peas, bag of frozen carrots, and a tenners worth of minced beef makes about ten home made cottage pies. Put them in foil trays(ten for a quid at poundland or 6 for a quid at morrisons) and it is a cheap, tasty and nutritious meal.
You can make loads of cheap and tasty meals with mince. Chilli and bolognase are just as easy to make and even cheaper. You can store and freeze them in the plastic tubs(same price as the tin foil ones) and just add rice or pasta as required.

Thanks bud, sounds a lot more up my area. Like I said, I have until September to get come basic culinary arts sorted and craft some ideas. Fuck knows how I'll cope in Liverpool after living down south!

i did my undergrad at liverpool.

great city (i know as a manc i am not supposed to say that, but it is)

Towards the end of my first year I was skint and busy doing essays that I had nothing in the house except some aunt bessie's stuffing balls which I had to eat dry. Still better than a pot noodle though.

His flat mates will mess about with it, piss in it or pinch the food while he's out though.

Can't go wrong with spaghetti, sauce and Greek salad on the side -- unimaginative but v tasty.

Every single lad not at his mams should have one of these. Especially if;

Food money is tight.
You're not a decent cook.

Don't just learn to cook things, learn to grow things as well.

Do many students have gardens?
I grew stuff in my room as a student which was very rewarding, but it certainly wasn't vegetables.
I tried papaver somniferum and coca too, but they didn't seem to like the climate of Fallowfield.
My diet as a student seemed to consist of bread, chips and Guinness.
In fact it hasn't changed markedly since.

We always had a garden, though a balcony can yield plenty of food given half decent thought and a bit of effort.

Alternatively, meet people at uni who have garden space and work together to convert that into a veg plot. Forget about allotments, they take years.

Also, chicks all secretly love hippies. Buy a woman flowers and she'll love you for an hour. Grow her strawberries and she's yours forever.

And yes, always grow mushrooms.

Mentioned earlier but mince is your saviour - you can spice it up or make a bolognese sauce or just a simple stew with carrots onions and potatoes . Make a big pan of it and will last you 3 days

Live in mixed halls or a share house with girls. Cook once, do it badly. They will look after you for years.
