Easy Meals For Uni?

One term at Uni i had £20 to last me for 18 days, on top of cereal, i mostly ate rice and gravy, which i purchased in baulk. If i was lucky i could blag some peppers or onion from a house mate and chuck them in as well... not flash in anyway but it kept me alive until the term ended.

How much money did you have for booze during that time??????

There's a great book called Grub on A Grant by Cas Clarke that I think now has a couple of sequels - was a lifesaver for me, and even had a section on cooking when you are really strapped for cash. You can get it on Amazon for pennies now. She assumes that you have never cooked in your life...

I still use a couple of the recipes umpty thrumpty years later.

I make the following pasta dish once a week. It's delicious, takes next to no time to make and will only set you back a couple of quid.

You need:
Tin of sardines(I use two)
Tin tomato
Tomato purée
Garlic
Chilli
Chilli flakes
Jar of capers

Pasta

Fry the garlic and chilli for a couple of minutes, chuck the sardines in for another couple of minutes (try not to break them up too much) followed by the tin of tomato. Let it reach bubbling point and add as much purée and chilli flakes as you feel necessary and then when it's ready about five minutes later add the capers.

Add it to the pasta and that's about it.

Aldi.

Get mince, can easily make the basics such as chili or spaghetti bolognese.

Frozen chicken is okay, I wouldn't normally get it but as a student it's decent. I'd say the Aldi one - <a class="postlink" href="https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/frozen/poultry/poultry-product-detail-page/ps/p/premium-chicken-breast-fillets/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range ... t-fillets/</a>

With chicken you can do all sorts, fajitas, curry, bung it in a bun with some lettuce and mayo, marinade it and have it with some veg.

I'll admit, first year I was shit with cooking. Second year I'm doing okay now. Not too sure how much that has to do with me sticking to a diet set for me or being out of halls.

Oh, if you go to the gym and it's near a supermarket, time your workout to finish just before the store closes. Morrisons reduce their full chickens to nothing. We always demolish them, decent.

Pot Noodle.

At over a quid a throw, it's hardly a cheap option. Cheap supermarket noodles at under 20p a packet is a far better option.

When my daughter was at uni, I used to make her meals at home, freeze them, and then send them back with her. Ten pound of spuds(leave the skins on, they go further), bag of frozen peas, bag of frozen carrots, and a tenners worth of minced beef makes about ten home made cottage pies. Put them in foil trays(ten for a quid at poundland or 6 for a quid at morrisons) and it is a cheap, tasty and nutritious meal.
You can make loads of cheap and tasty meals with mince. Chilli and bolognase are just as easy to make and even cheaper. You can store and freeze them in the plastic tubs(same price as the tin foil ones) and just add rice or pasta as required.

Thanks bud, sounds a lot more up my area. Like I said, I have until September to get come basic culinary arts sorted and craft some ideas. Fuck knows how I'll cope in Liverpool after living down south!
You'll love Liverpool, it's quality.
