What? You mean we are not all going to die?!

Wow...never saw that coming...was the end of the world last week

I don't think anything has changed since last week in reality. They have a couple of vaccines that they are hoping to start testing next year but they don't have a clue at this stage how successful they will be. Also they are working on an antibody serum using blood of those who have survived ebola to be used on those who are infected. I don't know much about the serum in terms of its basic efficacy, whether it is something that would stop ebola spreading even if it was effective and whether they would be able to produce enough serum if it continues to spread exponentially.

Just like spanish flu, bird flu, foot & mouth and every other human race ending virus it will peter out and won't even be news in a few weeks...until the next apocolyptic virus kills a few in a third world country...groundhog day

Spanish Flu killed at least 50 million people.

At a time when the world's population was significantly smaller too.

Just heard that Nigeria have eradicated it, and according to the bloke from the WHO (no, not the bloody band) it was down to basics - quarantine people, then risk assess their movements and family. Another doctor did also state that Nigeria had a decent health service though. So it can be eradicated if the systems are in place.

I read about this a few weks ago. They tracked down as many people as possible who had been in any contact with the person who brought it in to the country and basically quarantined the lot of them. I'm not sure whether any of the countries in the West who have had the odd case of ebola have even bothered quarantining those directly treating the infected patient though. I don't think in the West we are prepared to carry out the relatively draconian measures that would basically work if put in to place right at the outset of any cases.

Trypanophobia.

really. That bad that you cannot consider any vaccinations no matter what the circumstances?

Yep. Plus I don't see it as absolutely necessary. I'm not going to Africa and if the vaccine works Ebola isn't coming here.

So there is a doctor in New York who has it. Developed symptoms on Tuesday, went bowling, ate out and used the subway and a taxi on the Wednesday before going to hospital on the Thursday, all this time he was supposed to be monitoring his health as he was at risk. What a selfish idiotic man!
