I don't think anything has changed since last week in reality. They have a couple of vaccines that they are hoping to start testing next year but they don't have a clue at this stage how successful they will be. Also they are working on an antibody serum using blood of those who have survived ebola to be used on those who are infected. I don't know much about the serum in terms of its basic efficacy, whether it is something that would stop ebola spreading even if it was effective and whether they would be able to produce enough serum if it continues to spread exponentially.

Just like spanish flu, bird flu, foot & mouth and every other human race ending virus it will peter out and won't even be news in a few weeks...until the next apocolyptic virus kills a few in a third world country...groundhog day

Spanish Flu killed at least 50 million people.

Do you know where Spanish flu originated from ? I think you might be surprised.

According to wiki
Investigative work by a British team led by virologist John Oxford[13] of St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Royal London Hospital, identified a major troop staging and hospital camp in Étaples, France as almost certainly being the center of the 1918 flu pandemic. A significant precursor virus was harbored in birds, and mutated to pigs that were kept near the front.[14]

Earlier theories of the epidemic's origin have varied. Some theorized the flu originated in the Far East.[15] Dr. C. Hannoun, leading expert of the 1918 flu for the Institut Pasteur, asserted the former virus was likely to have come from China, mutated in the United States near Boston, and spread to Brest, France, Europe's battlefields, Europe, and the world using Allied soldiers and sailors as main spreaders.[16] Hannoun considered several other theories of origin, such as Spain, Kansas, and Brest, as being possible, but not likely.

Historian Alfred W. Crosby speculated the flu originated in Kansas.[17] Popular writer John Barry echoed Crosby in describing Haskell County, Kansas, as the likely point of origin.[18]

Political scientist Andrew Price-Smith published data from the Austrian archives suggesting the influenza had earlier origins, beginning in Austria in the spring of 1917.[19]

Historian Mark Humphries of Canada's Memorial University of Newfoundland states that newly unearthed records confirm that one of the side stories of the war, the mobilization of 96,000 Chinese laborers to work behind the British and French lines on World War I's Western Front, may have been the source of the pandemic. In the new report, Humphries finds archival evidence that a respiratory illness that struck northern China in November 1917 was identified a year later by Chinese health officials as identical to the Spanish flu.

Somebody posted on this thread(correctly) that the Ebola headline would be replaced by other news stories. Sadly, Ebola is not influenced by media perceptions and the infection continues to grow at an alarming rate. It amazes me that the world is not more concerned about this.

Nobody cares that people are starving to death either. Nobody cares that 75% of the jobs in the world will be replaced by robotics within 50 years and we have no plan for the basis of our economy then. Nobody cares that ISIS is still cutting people's heads off now we have given permission to militarise. Nobody cares about the struggles of liberty in any of the Arab countries. Nobody cares about the global climate and how humans are effecting it this week. Nobody cares about how Maddie McCann is getting on. Nobody cares if Frank Bruno is sorted out or whether he's still bonkers.

Nobody cares about anything that the media doesn't shove directly in their face and tell them to talk about.

Don't agree with you at all there I think we we are concerned about all these things and talk about them daily but if we posted every thought we had then it would take up all if our time

The Ebola thing has worried me from quite early on especially the lack of international intervention which is now showing that my worries were justified

I like this post. It's true, to an extent, and it's bleak and it's funny and it's clever.

You could put that to music.
