I guess the relatively low fee is partly down to his contract situation, but also a goodwill gesture in recognition of his excellent service for the club. Would prefer him to stay for another year, but understand that it’s best to let him leave if he wants to go.

Unsure about Trafford as his direct replacement, if that is the case, but let’s see what happens. Still seems possible that Ortega could leave too, so a more experienced keeper could also yet come in.

It’s possible but IMO that would be a disaster. Ortega played enough games last season for us to get a much truer picture of what life would be like with him as number 1 and I don’t think many of us liked what we saw.

If Eddie does go and Trafford comes in as number 1, we will also need to go into the market for a number 2, because there is no way Ortega accepts that situation.
A decent number 2 playing the odd game or a run of 2 or 3. He was dire last season when he had a prolonged run. Brentford away springs to mind

More experienced keeper may well come in if they both leave but if Trafford is 35-40m then it’s with the idea that he’s number 1 next season from day 1.

I’m really sceptical about Trafford though. Don’t think he’s close to good enough to be our no. 1. Hope i’m wrong.

True, he has been a no2 or sold, but will be remembered fondly for his brilliant 1 on 1 save from Son that was a big factor in us winning the league

Ederson goes with the upmost respect and gratitude. His style embodies pep’s work. The heroics against inter and many other matches won’t be forgotten. He deserves to leave on his own steam. No different to other club legends. Time moves on and it’s no different for Eddie. You can see he is just not as good now with certain aspects of his game, bit like Walker. The team needs a comfortable ball player but also a shot stopper on one v ones.

The replacement has big gloves to fill.

I wonder Whats happened since his interview a few weeks ago when he categorically said he was staying?

Fuming that his last few weeks here resulted in social media psychopaths giving him a bad final impressions. These morons aren’t even proper fans of the club.
I have to say, I have missed all this. Seen people here regularly mention it, so knew and out together something had gone on, but not seen the actual shit.

Thankfully too, because it woukd have pissed me right off. Shame, really.

Don't think that's strictly true.

We soent the same in Kushanov, he is not our no.1 defender. Spent even more on Gonzales, not the first choice in his position. I could go on.

The club will see value in the transfer, and while I agree they wouldn't spend say 80m on two keeprs in one window, there is also no reason Trafford's fee means they can't get another keeper for a similar or higher fee, if they wanted to. After all, we would be in this same position next year if both Eddie and Ortega stayed, with their contracts expiring at the same time.

The fee is rubbish but dont really care about the fee, our finances are in an incredible position were looking so healthy for PSR/revenue etc.

Not exactly happy Trafford being his replacement but think Eddie needs to leave, feel his form has left a lot to be desired hes looked like someone who wants to move on his passes and concentration has been way off and that's kinda the only thing that keeps him in the team as his shot stopping.leaves a lot to be desired

He's a legend and a big part of our history now, will be sad to see him go but as I said I think its time

Hoping we get the right man in to repalce him...something I'm nervous enough given Ederson is a unique talent

I'll be sorry to see one of our serial winners and no doubt a big character leave, if he goes.

His shot stopping has never been near world class level but, his thought process on the ball and passing are.

Our constant high line that Pep plays means lots and lots of one on ones which doesn't help him....not seen enough of Trafford in those situations to know if he's an improvement.

Ortega is a much better stopper than Eddie but that's where it ends.

As for distribution, it's getting harder for Eddie to make a difference as every man and dog in the world knows what he can do with the ball so teams almost never press and now actively sit back when he's got the ball.

In conclusion, with one year to go and seemingly unsettled it's probably time for him to leave.

Is Trafford the man? Is it feasible to share keeper duties with Ortega for a season to bed him in? I can remember England alternating Clemence and Shilton but, never a top class club side.

The dip have Mamardashvili this season and, from what I've heard from respected Euro experts, he seems a top quality long term replacement for Allison.

Trafford I am not sure about, being top class. Either now or in the future. But I'm definitely no expert.

I'd be gutted to see Ederson leave, but it seems strange that we've allowed both him & Ortega to enter into the final year of their contracts.

If the Trafford rumours are true, a move for him & Ter Stegen would make sense. However, it's rumoured that Ter Stegen is considering having back surgery that would rule him out for months.

I still reckon it'd be worth signing him as well as Trafford, as Betinelli can be our No 2 until Ter Stegen is fit to challenge for a place in the first team squad.

Probably Hugo Viana. He's brutal. No messing about with Kev or other's it seems.
He's been given a free hand by City. Let's hope their confidence in him is borne out.Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a disaster. The beginning of the season will be very interesting. Only time will tell if he's a success or major failure.
