Ederson (defensive midfielder Atalanta)

These comments are proper bobbins...

The impression Fernandinho did very well comes from the fact that in his first season he fixed all our defensive issues immediately pretty much by himself, he also masked the fact that our full backs were deteriorating quickly just because of how out-fucking-standing he was from day one.
His defensive work in just his first season gave Yaya Toure the creative freedom to have the greatest individual season, that any attacking box to box midfielder has ever had in the Prem statistically across the board.

It's absolute nonsense to suggest that Fernandinho might've actually been lucky to be in a team full of stars already, especially after you consider the fact that in 2013 we were so piss poor defending our first title of the Prem era.
Fernandinho was the enabler in our team for the likes of Merlin Yaya Nasri and others to express themselves, truth be told he probably papered over some major cracks with how incredible he was immediately.

Rodri might be our best defensive midfielder ever but he needed some time to adjust to the Prem and there's no shame in that, there's no need for revisionism here when it comes to his start here just because of what he's since achieved, it's still part of his incredible career so far and a big part of what actually makes Rodri so great.

Fernandinho was phenomenal and his performances were world class from the off, he's always been extremely underrated we've been blessed to have both Fernandinho and now Rodri.
Because they both genuinely make someone like Nigel De Jong a very good defensive midfielder himself, look a lot closer to Steve Lomas's average level rather than close to any of those two.

I'm not belittling NDJ here that's just how great Fernandinho and Rodri have been for us but unlike Rodri, Fernandinho made an instant impact to our team the type that very few players in football do.
There's usually a settling in period but there certainly wasn't with him maybe it was the cold harsh winters of Ukraine, to go with his speed aggression and hard as nails approach but Fernandinho was instantly brilliant.
Fernandinho was a fucking incredible player.

Outstanding in every facet of his role, hard as nails, superb attitude and a phenomenal leader.

Better than Rodri.

He’s my favourite city player of all time.

For those with shit memories and/or those who don’t understand the game.

I agree. As good as Rodri is Fernandinho was better.

He was awesome but not better than Rodri.

I'd have liked to see them paired together at their peak - we would've been impenetrable!

As much as I think Rodri is a better player than Fernandinho was, I don’t think Rodri would have reached the heights he has if Fernandinho wasn’t at the club to mentor him through and pass the baton on to him

Fernandinho was great especially in that 2018-19 season, but Rodri is better. He's got absolutely everything and there's a good chance he'll go down as one of the best players or the best we've ever had once his career is done.

Actually I'm on that part of the Pep book and apparently Pep was a bit frustrated with Rodri chasing about and being out of position. It was Lilo that took Rodri out and worked with him on his positioning and reading the game slowing him down.Rodri obviously had the intelligence to take it all on board and improve his game. I'm sure Fern was also part of that mentoring though.

Wo wo wo….Rodri just won the ballon d’or and got the winner in the CL final.
I know, but my opinion is Fernandinho was a better player. And nobody will change my mind on here, except maybe Rodri himself. Time will tell.

And Fernandinho may have scored the winner in the Chelsea final, but because of Pep he was denied his chance to.

Didn't score as many if not any trophy winning goals as Rodders but know what you mean . . .
