Hart was great under a defensive minded manager like Roberto , the whole team defended superbly and could close games down and Joe was a big part of that , when Pellers came along we played a more expansive game and Joe was exposed more , he still did Ok under Pellers but he had a lot more saves to make etc., Pep had already made his mind up about Joe before he arrived and his City career was finished in ruthless fashion , he deserved better for his ten years service at the club. Who is best ? Even with his short tenure as our keeper Ederson gets my vote ,although i loved what Joe did for the club and will always be one of the great City keepers alongside Trautmann , Swift , Corrigan , Coton , Given and ........................Niall Quinn.

This is a hard question to answer.
No City keeper of the past few years, ever has those 'backs to the wall' / 'pull off a string of great saves' moments that other keepers do (the likes of Fabianski, Etheridge, de Gea especially) ... simply because of the way City dominate possession / conttol the play every single match.

For example, penalties aside, Ederson has only faced a combined total of 4 shots on target in his last 7 matches. His main problem is probably boredom.

So neither Hart nor Ederson made/make many saves. With Ederson, it's really all about his passing / sweeper-keeper / concentration / keeping the ball moving.
At this (which is what Pep demands) he's a lot better than Joe ever was.

Other than shot stopping & 1v1, what exactly was Joe good at ?

For me:

command of the box was weak
Catching was non existent
Flapping / wafting, I'll grant you
Distribution - appalling
Ball skills at his feet - none

He made fewer mistakes than his peers. Yes, there were some errors, but very few - so few I can remember them - other top GKs made more mistakes. But the press went on and on about any small mistake. Messi rated him as a phenomenally good GK. Messi's word is enough for me. His record against other top Prem GKs is a fair comparison during that 5/6 year period. His record for England when considered against Neuer and the like is a fair comparison. Neuer played 70-odd games behind one of the greatest teams who ever lived. Joe played behind a very average England team and yet has a better record than Neuer. Yes, Germany went deeper into tournaments, but otherwise they played the same standard of opponent.

At his peak Joe was as good as they come .Watched a video yesterday v the rags at Wembley. He was outstanding. His distribution wasn't always the best. I will go for Joe simply because how the teams he were in played, he had many more shots to save
