Re: Edin Dzeko legend
If anything, what this whole argumentation proves is that Mancini is willing to play wide, ONLY if we are chasing the game. That is why Dzeko becomes effective as a sub. Playing wide with Tevez coming off the bench is pointless, since he is a midget, same as Aguero.
By that logic, Tevez and Aguero should start. Whether you agree with that logic is a whole other matter. I do not.
If we were mixing it up playing wide and narrow, during the whole game, we would be a lot harder to predict for opposition managers. The stubbornness of trying to walk the ball into the goal is costing us points. We have been found out, and that is most likely why Mancini is tinkering with 3-5-2. To give us the plan B we do not have naturally, since the attempts to secure a world class winger failed.
Mancini obviously does not consider Sinclair a plan B. Nor did he consider Johnson an option given his performances before leaving.
I read somewhere Maicon could be a tested as a winger. Given he is a similar player to Antonio Valencia, the idea is not a bad one. What they lack in finesse, they make up in raw power.
When Maicon came on Sunday, on two (?) occasions (before Dzeko came on) he bombed a low cross in between the goalie and the defenders. None of our forwards were even close to get on the end of those crosses. I asked myself if Dzeko would have latched onto those crosses. Of course, no one can tell for sure, but in my opinion those are the kind of passes/crosses that Dzeko thrives on.
