Edinburgh

Some great help here. Thanks to every one.
We are staying at the Hilton out at the airport. What is parking like in the city centre or are we best using public transport to get into Edinburgh.

parking is expensive as in most cities .. there is a park and ride near the airport if you dump the car there you can get a day saver for the bus for £3 which is valid on all LRT Lothian Region Transport buses ( maroon and white)
alternatively the airport bus is £6 return great quick service but the tickets can only be used for two trips
hope that makes sense

also forgot to mention that the zoo is on the airport side of town and is worth a visit

Cheers again. Day saver looks a good option.

Lived in edinburgh my whole life and havent been to half the places people have listed on here haha

Never been in the hotel you booked but it looks great from outside. Its very close to the centre of town a 5-10minute walk down the bridges and you'll see princes street on the left and the Omni centre down to your right.
It can be quite busy at night where you are because theres a few pubs and a club quite close, more of a 18-25year old place so its not exactly your suit up kind of club.
There's a few nice bars and restaurants on Geroge street which runs parallel to princes street, more of the dress code kind of places.

I would definitely take the tour down Mary kings close, its basically the old edinburgh. The old edinburgh is under the ground, undearneath the city... Its just minutes from your hotel. http://www.realmarykingsclose.com/

I have lived in manchester(family there) i can assure you edinburgh is 100x safer at night than manchester. Its very rare to see any trouble.

That's one of the reasons I loved Edinburgh. Never any hassle walking about at night, even the scallies (or neds as you call them) are a tamer breed so long as you stick to the city centre and the surrounding area.

Only time I ever witnessed anything dodgy was further into Leith or round Oxgangs and another estate which I can't remember the name of (Forest something?).

I loved Edinburgh. Still thinking of going back there when I decide to settle down.

I lived there for a while.

Really nice city and as it's very small compared to Manchester, unless you really go out of your way, you'll only ever be 10min drive or so from city centre.

Rose St which runs parallel to Princes St (the main street) is full of pubs and bars, some more tourist orientated than others.

You won't really struggle for things to do or see, it's all laid out so that you can't miss much and as I said, it's a fairly small city all in all.

Honestly couldn't recommend any hotels etc as obviously I was living there and not visiting. Best thing to do is just get down there and play it by ear.

Same here, lived up there for 6 months. Whatever you do don't think 'I know, i'll take in a game at Hearts or Hibs' It's like a long slow lingering death. A visit to the dentist is more preferable.

Hey all, I wonder if anyone can help me. I have never been to scotland but have always fancied visiting Edinburgh. I have booked me and Mrs BB2.0 two nights from Fri 5th- Sun 7th. We are staying here

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.radissonblu.co.uk/hotel-edinburgh" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.radissonblu.co.uk/hotel-edinburgh</a>

which Im told is pretty central and close to all the main attractions (getting train so no car)

Has anyone been or live/d/s there who could give me some ideas?

Im looking for...

1) Touristy stuff to do in the day.

2) Nice bars/pubs to go to at night

3)Two resturants, one very nice/expensive, one nice but average priced...

4) Anything that may not be on tourist trail thats worth seeing?

Any help greatly appreciated!

How was it?
I've got a few days off now, just looking at hotels for tomorrow for three nights.
