Edinburgh

Had a great time in Edinburgh did all the tourist things ,Castle,Dungeon and Mary King's Close (Take an old toy for Annie the ghost)
2 days was not really long enough and glad I left the kids at home.(Penty of walking).
The Barcelo hotel was clean and tidy and Ideally placed for everywhere.Breakfast was ok (had better)
Went to Leith in the evening to eat and went to MYA'S an Indian and Thai restaurant food was very good and reasonable Bottle of wine ,starter and main course for two £65.
The Bus from the airport was £6 return each. And bus fares in general were £1.20 any trip one way(have the correct amount).
It,s a stunning city with great architecture and would recommend a visit to anybody. Just one thing let it down was the amount of beggars but I suppose its the same in most large cities.

after coming back from poland via edinburgh, had a top 2 days in Edinburgh, had one of the nicest currys ever.

Top sports bar behind the train station (manchester definately needs one)

Stayed in the Waverly Hotel, which apart from the lift breaking (and climbing 6 flights all the time) was top.

Thanks also for all info earlier in thread. Went up during half term with wife and kids for a change from London. The bonus was that the Scottish kids were in school so everything was much quieter.
Quite lucky with weather so walked up Arthurs Seat which was well worth it and the views over the city are fantastic. Did Camera Obscura which was fascinating and Dynamic Earth down by Holyrood Palace, again well worth a visit. Did a 'spooky' ghost walk at Mary Kings Close, not very scary but amazing to discover the history of Edinburgh.
Cheap buses, good food readily available to suit all pockets and plenty to do and see. When asked where they wanted to go next year both my lads (10 and 14) plumped for Edinburgh.

Just looking at an apartment near "Dynamic Earth" now, seems like a nice spot.
Really looking forward to this trip now, only been to there once before and that was for 7 minutes, not long enough really :)

Hey, just wanted to thank everyone for all your advice.

I did the following

Went to St Marys Close

Ate here <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186525-d718895-Reviews-Dubh_Prais-Edinburgh_Scotland.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant ... tland.html</a> -food was great and the owner James and his staff were absolutely lovely.

Had the castle tour

Climbed Arthur's Seat- not as easy as I was told-quite a climb, and we were un prepared, but well worth it for the views!

Edinburgh Dungeon- not really what I expected-more 'hollywood history' but fun all the same.

oh and went to a great bar called Voodoo Rooms- <a class="postlink" href="http://www.thevoodoorooms.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.thevoodoorooms.com/</a> -well worth a visit.

Hotel - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.radissonblu.co.uk/hotel-edinburgh" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.radissonblu.co.uk/hotel-edinburgh</a> was not spectacular (for the price) but free pool/gym/net and the staff were great, nothing wrong with the place at all, think I was probably expecting more for £159 a night, but then again the location could not have been better.

Also ate in the Mitre on Sat as we had a cheaper/early meal and went out drinking.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/themitrebarroyalmileedinburgh/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/themitr ... edinburgh/</a>

The food was amazing for the price £12 for two courses and I have NEVER eaten a nicer pie in my life- and I've eaten some pies in my days!!

All in all great trip, lovely city and the locals were an absolute pleasure.

If anyone goes to the Camera Obscura in Edinburgh this is the type of thing that is there spread over 5 floors. My wife, I and eldest son stared at this picture for about 5 minutes. All it said was 'find the hidden tiger'. Now I know where it is, it is so bloody obvious but we had to use the cheat flap for help. See what you lot think or is it just us that are blind.
