Elano v Robinho

Elano for me that free kick against Newcastle was special!!!!.I was at City that day he scored that goal and i will never forget it brilliant.

I thought Elano was a superb penalty taker too. Did he ever miss one for us? On a par if not better than Balo's.

I seem to remember Daniel Sturridge petulantly snatching the ball out of Elano's hands once after we were awarded a penalty - or did I imagine that?

-- Tue Jan 15, 2013 2:53 pm --

I thought Elano was a superb penalty taker too. Arsenal when we won 3-0

Elano, class touch, better pass. Fantastic work rate at the best of times. Positionally aware. Right back, mid, centre forward. Best Sven signing ever.

"the best sven signing ever"... out of a set of signings were Rolando Bianchi, Gelson Fernandes, Geovanni, Martin Petrov, Elano, Vedran Ćorluka, and Javier Garrido.

Elano was inarguably the most talented of that group - but I thought Elano just tried when he wanted to and gave the impression of being a lazy head case, at least outside of match day. Far too many games when he just didn't show up at all. I think Petrov, Corluka, and Garrido contributed just as much to us as a team.

If you had to re-sign one of them, which one would you opt for?

Although I thought Robinho was an amazing signing at the time - with hindsight I would probably go for Elano. Robinho was a pretty selfish player, albeit a very talented one.

Elano, on the pitch at least, was a team player and showed some sublime skills when he played.
Team player?? When he was in and out of the side in 08/09 he basically sulked when he did play. The Forest cup game he might as well not have bothered he played like he couldn't be bothered as gifted as he was his ego ruined him he thought he was better than the rest and therefore should start every week.

Robinho is a wonderful player but like other Brazilians they have a problem settling in Europe. He would if his mind was settled be a wonderful addition that ability we are missing. He did sign 3 years too early.

I wouldn't say Brazilians have a problem settling in Europe - Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Marcelo, Maicon etc. The UK I would agree!

Ronaldinho had problems even while at Barca, Ronaldo the REAL one is the exception Marcelo has been here since he was young and Maicon also settled well. They all want to go home at some point.

Robinho.
Pato.
Love.
Jo.
Adriano.
Breno.
Edmundo.
Denilson.
Sobis.
Keirrison.

We could be here all day.

Robinho was what he was - a 'look at me' signing by the owners, and fair play to them too. He wasn't that good though, let's be honest, he was just a big name. He wouldn't get anywhere near this team now.

Hahaha.

Its 3 years later he is even worse and AC Milan are struggling to sell him. He peaked at 21 then regressed every year since

He hasn't failed though he wants to leave HUGE difference.

Robinho has failed in his career since he was 21, failed and thats why he is going back to Brazil where it is easier.
While we are at it:
Kerrison is dog shit and no team in Europe will ever touch him again or any decent team in Brazil for that matter
Adriano had a breakdown and turned to alcohol, again no European club will touch him ever again
Denilson, has any other player ever failed so badly to live up to the hype, went back to Brazil towards end of career
Pato, what the fuck happened to this lad, injuries saw him off, better money for him in Brazil
Edmundo, you should check is playing career because he really shouldnt be in the list
Jo, fuck all to say to that really
Love, pretty much the only one on your list that is correct
Breno never really made it, better money at home
Sobis, see Breno

The list could go on but most players go home when the career is over (one last pay day, they not wanted in Europe, better money in Brazil (especially with economic boom there)
Or they fall apart, Adriano's dad died and he lost the plot
