Elano

When he showed up, he was a gem of a player, those first 7-8 games for Sven and Hamburg.

He was immense against Hamburg and I really thought he'd go on to be successful with the club, but he was never consistent enough.

I remember that free kick against Newcastle... It was easily one of the best free kicks I've ever seen, straight in the top corner from about 30 yards.

Lol at him being over rated, he played in the Brazilian national team for years. In my honest opinion he would adapt better to our current squad, would he put Silva out of the team? No, but he would be a handy squad member.

I liked him at his time at city, but in the future I'd stick with the argentines!!
He played regularly for them during 2007-2009. Since 2006ish it's been the worst Brazil side ever, so not good to judge from that really.

He was a fairly decent player. Would still have a place in the squad if he was still here, although Kompany did say at an OSC meeting I went to that he visited once, just after Elano left "most of the trouble causer are gone now!"
I remember reading a few articles along those lines back then? Were they all wrong? Back on topic, Elano wasn't consistent enough to warrant a place in the squad we have now. He was fantastically skilled, no question. I was over for the Newcastle game and I was right in line with him when he struck that free kick; one of the best set pieces I've seen. However, he was awful in the second half of that season, a fact that some on here seem to have forgotten.

In one of the poorer Brazil teams for a long time. It wasn't like he was keeping players like Kaka, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, out the team. He's a player that excels every now and again, doesn't have the mentality to make it to the top, hence why Shakhtar, City, and Galatasaray shipped him off.

Great player he can go on the bench and play FA Cup / Carling Cup. If the attitude was correct from Elano he can play reserve to Silva.

The answer is a resounding NO!

Not because he was sometimes a world beater and at other times ineffective, specifically because he's a mard arse. There are only a couple left on the books now and if you look back at Mancini's selling plan I'd say this is the prime reason for him selling some of those who would be considered the better players. Mancini is numero uno, he won't tolerate any of this bollocks and prefers model professionals in his team, except of course Tevez and Balotelli and he's tried to sell Carlos and told Mario to grow up and left him picking splinters out of his arse on the bench.

As someone else has already posted, brilliant penalty tacker. I've never seen anymore take better pens. But that alone can't justify a place in the team. Not consistent enough.
Kevin Horlock. Dead-Eye Kev rarely missed from the spot. For his run up he used to walk aggresively to the ball and goalkeepers just couldn't handle it.

No. He would not start in the team we have now. If Kinkladze wouldn't, Elano definitely wouldn't.

its 85 minutes into the match between City and utd the final game in the UEFA cup the score is nil nil:

Free kick to City left hand side 5 yards out side the penalty area.

Stood over the ball is Sliva, Kolarov and Elano!

De gea................. shits a brick!

Now, unless it's my over active imagination, many of you that are stating Elano would not get into the team, fail to realise that Mancini and Ela were linked when Elano was here. So, therefore, the definition holds that he WOULD have gotten into the team on that basis.

Mancini would have made space and tactics for him.
