Why suspicious? It's a marketing site, not citizens advice
Because they would have to advertise somehow and if they’re not then it’s a possible scam, but might not be. That’s the definition of being suspicious, you’d need to ensure that the company is genuine yourself. By paying to appear on a comparison site, but not paying switching commission, would be the best way for them to get found. The other options are billboard or media advertising, mailing campaigns and cold-calling but these seem rather costly options to me.

Was the previous tennant paying any arrears off mate and they’ve failed to alter her usage rate ?

It’s happened to me before, essentially, I’d been paying off the previous tenants debt.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner I think.

going off meter readings
Is that from taking the meter readings when she moved in and from 1 month later? They don't usually take readings so close together. £43 a month is awfully low anyway, the £90 odd a month she's paying seems more likely. £300 is a joke and is either (as previously mentioned) due to them not changing the tariff due to previous O/Bs or your daughter is running a cannabis farm.

She's having a smart meter fitted She's spoken to her power supplier, they've come to an agreement, she isn't paying half of what she was so hopefully it was some sort of mistake, she won't talk to me about it, I hate to think she was getting ripped off so went off on the deep end, I'm a bit like a dog protecting the bone once i get on one :)

How do energy comparison sites make money?

They earn money whenever a customer avails of a switch on the comparison site. Thus, the more visits an energy comparison site has, the more it can convert many consumers into switches. It also results in earning more income. Most energy comparison sites try to keep the amount of commissions they receive confidential.

When anyone uses a comparison site, you are asked who is your current supplier, the site gets paid a fee by a new supplier....

I know how they work. I was answering your question as to why a company NOT on a comparison site should or could be deemed suspicious and why it would need to be treated cautiously, the buyer would need to do due diligence that they were safe to deal with.

tbh i treat them all as suspiucious, comparison sites are just the modern way of selling/marketing to reach the mass market. All energy companies are there to make money, keeping customers happy is usually secondary
