It could be storage heaters using a lot of power, but maybe she’s on a single rate tariff that doesn’t give the lower rate (night-time) charge for them. If you have storage heaters and go on a single rate tariff they would be very expensive.

My mother just switched to OVO in July. Today she has received a letter from them to say her direct debit will be increased from £157 a month to £457 with immediate affect. She is 86 & blind. She only uses electricity to have the TV or radio on, kettle ,cooker. She has not had theheating on since April due to fear of using too much. Feel she was conned into switching

Ye everyone thinks that just because they say they want that much it’s legally binding, it’s not, no one has to pay by DD and I think you’ll see millions cancelling soon. Get the companies to come and take a reading each month, that’ll eat into their bastard profits.

Cheers for all the good advice. I currently have Covid and am very poorly. Will cancel the DD immediatly and as soon as fit enough will arrange pay as you go.
