Eliaquim Mangala - 2017/18 performances

I am frustrated with Pep's insistence to play him either at LB or in this back three, he looks very uncomfortable (even more so than usual!)

I think that has to do with Mangala's lack of ability on the ball. Playing further out to the touchline means if he gives it away the opposition won't be able to score so easily that far wide. If you look where he got caught by Ayew it's much easier for opposition to press him and score from the center of the pitch.

I'm with Sam Lee on this. Really can't see why he is suddenly the answer to our problems. Short memories? He is slow and unintelligent makes bad mistake and gives away penalties. Thank god Pep has sussed him Bony and Delph out.

Get rid and replace with clever fast replacements. Mangala has not improved and gets ripped to pieces in the Premiership. Rarely have I seen a player capable of such important mistakes. He has stuck it in his own net more than the opposition goal.

If you were ask me to pick out a defender that is most unsuited to our style, then this guy would come out with flying colours.

He's just not a Pep player (I'm using that a lot recently lol). Too indecisive but most of all, it's how he looks. Whenever I watch him I think there is a mistake here, any time now. He treats the ball like a hot potato.

I can imagine in Peps head there are all kinds of bells ringing.

I don't think he is the answer, but slow he is not, he's by some distance the fastest central defender on our books.

Fully agree. I think Fernando would have come second.
But with regards Mangala, much like Fernando he could have his uses till adequately replaced.
Think Fernando at the swamp, use him on the occasions we need his assets.
Bide our time and replace properly.
He's here, he's popular with the lads and if there were an occasion for a backs to the wall vs the hoof, much like the swamp derby, he may have his uses.

Not over the first five yards he isn't. He is easily turned and left for dead. He can catch the attacker about a second after the shot has been made which is prefereable to what he does should he catch him....which is a clumsy tackle in his own area resulting in a penalty.

He isn't clever enough. Awful signing.
